Minakami Hotel Juraku is located in the centre of Minakami town, which has a population of 20,000 people, but it is only a 20 minute bus ride to Tenjindairaso (Tenjin) and 15km from Minami Houdagi.
You are not as close to the snow but you have the option to visit Tenji or Minami Houdagi each day depending on snow conditions.
And there is the extra cultural experience of living in the middle of a Japanese town such as dining options, onsens etc.
While it is realativley easy to travel to the two resorts by public transport this location would realy suit anyone with their own car.
And of course there is the beautiful renovated Japanese Onsen Hotel that you will be staying.
The hotel has an indoor and outdoor Onsen with the effective Onsen water from Minakami Onsen to sooth your body!

How do I get to Minakami Hotel Juraku ?
The hotel is located in the centre of Minakami town, so it within walking ranges of plenty of dining options.
Catch the train to Minakami station, transfer to the free scheduled shuttle bus (2 minutes) or stroll 10 minutes through town to Minakami Hotel Juraku
If you are coming by Shinkansen you will need to stop at JR Jomo Kogen Station which the Joetsu Shinkansen stops. It takes only 75 minutes from Tokyo by bullet train. There is a a free scheduled shuttle bus from Jomo Kogen station to the hotel which takes 25 minutes.
Now you have arrived it is time to hit the slopes!
From Minakami Station (2 minutes by free shuttle form the hotel) you can catch a public bus to the famous powder mecca Tenjindaira, which takes 20 minutes.
This would also be an ideal base if you would like to also ski in Houdaigi. But, to move around between resorts we would suggest travelling by car.
Minakami town is the gateway to Minakami Kogen Ski Resort which is perfect for families, Houdaigi suited to both powder hunters and families, Tenjin famous backcountry area for advanced skiers / boarders. Minakami town is also home to Takaragawa Onsen and many more.
The entire area is less discovered by western people and offers a more local Japanese experience.
From Tokyo, the fastest route to Minakami is the Joetsu Shinkansen (bullet train) to Jomo Kogen Station, which takes only 66 minutes or 2 hours by car.
If you are using the public transport, we will help you plan the itenerary and also assist with the route and timetable. There is an economical 3 day bus pass which you can use in the Minakami town, which you can buy online. The bus pass is also avaialble at the tourist office at Jomo Kogen station or Minakami station.
Having your own car is the best if you would like to travel to different resorts with no hassle. You could hire a car in Minakami or Tokyo.
