Annex Aburaya cannot be beaten for location. It’s quicker to get to and from the lifts here than from the ski room at the main hotel.

Rooms are well sized for Japan. The bath area is spotless and never crowded - our family including children of 15 and 11 soon got used to the whole communal bathing thing. The owners are very helpful arranging meals and tickets. Language is no barrier as they have a nifty google translate device that turns your English into perfect Japanese! Hire shop next door looked like it had near new gear and big range. They waxed our skis for a good price too.

We walked to dinner at many different places from here with no drama.

We decided to ski on the day we left and the owners were really helpful. There is a large room to keep your stuff in - and we had a nice bath before moving on. Totally worthwhile.

Mid January 2017

Thanks once again for booking our accommodation.  Our hosts at Annex Aburaya were amazing and so accommodating. English was a challenge but google translator helped massively. It had a real Japanese feel and the breakfast and dinner was great. The ski lifts and slopes are just outside the front door across the road so a hop, skip and a jump and you are off down the mountain. Madarao Ski Resort is sure one not to be missed. The runs are perfect for all levels of skiing. Those who like a bit of off piste stuff well this is the mountain for you as it is aloud. We will be heading back for sure. If you are looking to get away from the now more popular ski resorts in Nagano check out Madarao you will not be disappointed.

Cheers Larissa

January 2015

We spent 4 days boarding in Madarao, staying at Aburaya. Each evening we ate in the pension, and the food was amazing. Although the owners did not speak much English, language was not an issue as they made a huge effort, and the hospitality was first class.

This place was perfect. The owners were so hospitable and made a huge effort for us. Nothing was too much trouble. The meals were all excellent and on our last night we were really treated to some fine dining Japanese style! delicious! The location was also perfect as it was right next to the chairlift. The perfect hosts and great value for money is how i would describe my stay.

Japan Snow Accommodation has a very close relationship with Madarao Mountain Resort and we have been working closely together since 2008.

Madarao is a small mountain, but it very popular because of the easy navigation around the mountain, powder tree runs and typcal Japanese style friendly service.

Mt. Madarao consists of Madarao Mountain Resort on one side & Tangram on the other side and are connected by a lift. Day trips to Nozawa Onsen and Myoko Kogen are also possible.

The most popular accommodation on the Madarao side are Madarao Kogen Hotel and Monaile Madarao because they are both ski in/ski out hotels. Hotel Tangram on the Tangram side is also ski in ski out.

Madarao has about 10 restaurants & bars so you can enjoy dining out in the small resort village.

The fastest route to Madarao is to fly into Haneda or Narita Airport, catch the airport shuttle bus to Tokyo Train Station, take the Shinkansen to IIyama and then take the bus to Madarao. We will provide you with detailed up to date transfer info 21 days before you arrive.
