Shiga Kogen is located in Nagano prefecture on the main island in Honshu and is one of the largest ski resorts in Japan. There are 18 ski areas consisting of 51 chairlifts & gondolas. You can ski across most of the mountains or catch the mountain shuttle bus.

Where to stay
The most accommodation chioice is in the Ichinose area where there are several restaurant options to dine out. The Yakebitaiyama area has two ski in & out Shiga Kogen Prince Hotels. The Okushiga Kogen area is nice and quiet and has many high class hotels.

The Location
It is about 90 minutes from Tokyo to Nagano station by Shinkansen and another 90 minutes by Nagaden Express bus from Nagano station to Shiga Kogen. You also have an option to catch the direct airport shuttle to your accommodation. We can help you planning the best way to transfer to Shiga Kogen from the airport or anywhere in Japan.

We all had a wonderful time at Okushigakogen and the snow was great. Thank you for organising our accommodation. No problems with lifts on hold due to high winds (did shut down gondola and some chairs on one occasion but only half a day).

The rooms that we booked were a lovely size and beds comfortable. Onsen, as usual, thoroughly enjoyed by all of us. The front staff always so helpful and approachable. Likewise the wait staff at meals.

Breakfast and dinners delicious. My only disappointment was not booking dinners ahead of stay as often very late times offered on standby and on one occasion no tables available. Unfortunately due to lack of any transport option after 5:00pm we were unable to travel down to Ichinose in evenings to dine. Unable to book any dinners at the Grand Phoenix Hotel and the Sports Bar closed at night.

Hope you have had the opportunity to travel back to Japan.

We are delighted with both the Okushiga Kogen Hotel and your service.

The hotel is in an excellent location, and we enjoyed our stay very much—the onsight ski hire is so convenient and the lift passes easy to find.  The hotel was warm, and clean with a lovely fireplace and bathhouse.   The dinners each night were tasty and looked forward to by my family, and the Japanese restaurant was our favourite. :) There was confusion around dinner bookings, but it was all sorted out, and the hotel staff were very helpful.  We got to know the bus system to other resorts, which meant we could enjoy some snowshoeing and visit the snow monkeys. Overall, we look forward to returning to the Okushiga Kogen Hotel one day.

Your assistance with our booking is appreciated, very attentive service, and I’m grateful you were available a couple of times whilst we were away to answer queries too :)

Returned from our trip one week ago and would like to thank you very much for all your organisation. Everything went very well, Ming and his family and Marla and myself Mitchell Coleman had a fantastic time. Great snow was an absolute bonus.

Greg and I really enjoyed our stay in Okushiga Kogen Hotel, and the Shiga Kogen ski area generally.  

Our room was lovely and more than adequate for our needs.  The breakfasts were plentiful and varied, with plenty of choices.  The dinner options at the Hotel were wonderful, especially the fine dining in the Japanese Restaurant and also in the French Restaurant - each dish was beautifully presented and a culinary delight.  All the staff were unbelievably welcoming and accommodating – outstanding.  A delightful surprise was the accomplished pianist who played every night in the open lounge area.  

The rooms need a little modernising with things like USB ports for charging electronic equipment.  But we made do, as we had the right attachments, but I’d imagine some people might struggle?  Also, the TVs are not smart TVs, so could not get Netflix, YouTube etc.  But really, these are minor issues that will be dealt with in time, I’m sure.

We loved that we could ski right back to the door of the hotel on our return from skiing each day, and it’s only a short walk to the lifts in the morning.  The skiing area of Shiga Kogen is amazing – vast, and uncrowded.  We enjoyed skiing from area to area, and there’s enough Blue and Black runs to keep the skiing interesting.  Also, the lunch options on the mountain and at the base of gondolas etc were wonderful.  It was easy to find something to eat, and it was usually very yummy!

All in all, I would say that Greg and I would consider returning to Shiga Kogen and Okushiga Kogen Hotel.
