Shin-Etsu

November 2023

We both really enjoyed our stay on the Shin Etsu. Everything went smoothly and all our hosts were welcoming  We were met at Iiyama station and given an orientation and then our host Toshi from Elm Pension picked us up. Elm Pension was basic but comfortable. Yoshi's cooking was excellent.  The walking started the next day and Hiromi Matsumura the local guide was fabulous. Really informative, welcoming and fun. Lovely views and easy walking. The trail itself is very quiet compared to others we have walked. The maps supplied were invaluable but I also purchased an English guidebook at Ilyama which helped. A couple of stretches of track were a bit rough and you do many climbs and ascents. I would love to see a longer walking option provided by your company - perhaps Sections 1 to 6. A week's worth of walk would be great.

It is a wonderful area to explore.

Nakasendo

28th October 2022

NAKA.jpg

We booked a tour through Walk Through Japan for a 3D3N self supported hike at the Nakasendo Trail in Japan.

Despite it being very last minute, WTJ managed to arrange everything for us, including making all bookings and sending the details through email and hardcopy to our hotel in Tokyo.

During the hike, the instructions provided were clear and precise. We had absolutely no issue completing the hike on our own, and yet felt very supported.

We had asked for advice to stay 1 extra night at a midpoint, and WTJ recommended Kiso-Fukushima. That was a wonderful choice as we had the opportunity to explore this beautiful quaint town.

This was our first trip hiking in Japan but will certainly not be the last. The hike was awesome, places were incredibly clean and autumn was simply breath-takingly beautiful.

Accomodation was traditional Japanese Tatami and very comfortable.

Food was impeccable. Nothing can really go wrong with Japanese cuisine.

We highly recommend this tour (perhaps longer, to take in more of the sights).
