The Mountain
All these resorts are within range, so you are spoilt for choice. It does attract the second most amount of western visitors behind Niseko, so it is well set up to accommodate westerners. Along with Niseko it is often chosen as the first or second trip to Japan before you will look at some of the lesser known or more adventurous options.

The Location
The most common way to travel to Hakuba valley is to fly into Tokyo, catch a direct shuttle bus or combination of bus and shinkansen. We can advise or help you book all transfers.

Late January 2017

This was my second stay at Maruni Ryokan and it was excellent. Shino and her family are so welcoming and helpful.

The Ryokan is perfectly clean and well located in the village, the food is delicious and the on-site onsen is excellent.

I would recommend Maruni to anyone who wants to try the true experience of a traditional family-owned Japanese Ryokan. I hope I can visit again soon.

Thank you for helping me out as always Hisae.

Please pass on my thanks to Shino and her family.

All the best,
Andrew Maher
