FURANO
Hokkaidofurano.jpg

The Mountain
Furano is located in Hokkaido prefecture, which is the the north island of Japan. It is famous for light dry powder but with less crowds than Niseko. The ski resort has a variety of terrain suitable for all levels of skiers from beginner to advanced. There are two magic carpet escalators accessed slopes for children. To challenge yourself, there are ungroomed powder runs and steep cruisers that have been used for FIS world cup races in the past. There are many backcountry tours and guides avaialble in Furano. Some people base themselves in Furano to explore Central Hokkaido such as Tomamu, Asahidake, Tokachidake and Sahoro.

The Location
The closest international airport is the New Chitose Airport, but depending on your country of origin you may have to fly into Tokyo first. The easiest mode of transport is the Hokkaido Resort Liner which leaves from New Chitose Airport daily and takes about 3 hours to reach Furano.

Where to stay
Furano has a village called Kitanomine with restaurants & shops and most of the accommodation is located in this area.

Late December 2015

We had a fantastic time again. We all really liked the resort of Furano.

The lodge was in a great location, easy to walk to slopes.

The rooms were so nice, large, spacious, spotlessly clean and lovely view out to some trees.

It was difficult to communicate with the lady that seemed to be in charge.

The lodge was very quite, a bit too quite around the place and lacked a bit of atmosphere.

It would have been nice to have the fire on in the night time to sit around and have a drink etc.

Breakfast was OK but being there for a week we had the same breakfast every morning which got very boring -same fruit, same egg dish etc. Wifi was also problematic. Funny codes, unreliable in rooms etc. For what they were charging some of the above elements were disappointing.

Thanks again for all your help.

Linda

Mid February 2014

Yes we loved Phytoncide. I stayed there before – about 3 or 4 years ago.

The operators are lovely people, the accommodation is first class and charming, the attention to detail is obvious and the location is almost perfect for the Kitanomine ski lifts. I would go back tomorrow.
