Hotel St Moritz guest reviews

Early January 2017

The hotel is comfortable, though they do not rent snow boards or premium quality skis. They also lack a dedicated drying room, meaning all of our gear had to be dried in our room each night. They provided breakfast as part of our package, but this was suited more to the Japanese taste than the western taste. This could be remedied by simple things such as providing toast.

Great onsen!

We really enjoyed the skiing at Shiga Kogen, but there is no English speaking group skiing lessons available.

We also make the comment that there were very few evening dining options in the village of Ichinose. Almost all evening dining was associated with a hotel and getting in if you were not a guest was virtually impossible.  We didn't eat at out hotel as their menu was not western child friendly and expensive. When the one ramen place closed for two nights, we had to eat instant noodles from  a convenience store.

Overall, we enjoyed our trip, but won't go back until our kids are past lessons and the resort offers more variety of dining.

Mid January 2016

We all had a wonderful 4 week holiday in Japan. We stayed in January 2016

Thank you so much for organising our stay at St Moritz Shiga Kogen. It was our 3rd visit to Shiga Kogen and our first time staying at St Moritz Hotel.

Firstly it was an easy 5 min walk from the Ichinose Bus stop ok in good weather to walk.

We were welcomed my the manager and his wife and informed about all the facilities of the hotel.

Ski lockers are on the ground floor,as well as toilets, separate male and female onsens and free laundry facilities. We booked the larger rooms which were comfortable with 2 western beds, small lounge, wardrobe, western style cubicle bathroom, small bar fridge and balcony which was nice to look out towards the mountains. It was not luxurious but quite comfortable and warm and clean. There is no smoking in bedrooms which is great !

I really enjoyed the onsens and had one nearly every day.It was spotlessly clean, equipped with hairdyer and body wash, shampoo and conditioner.Great to sooth the skiers legs after a full day skiing.

Breakfast was ok at St Moritz but we preferred the days that they had buffet breakfast as our 2 teenage sons preferred a western style breakfast. We also tried buffet dinner which was good lots of variety around 3,000 yen .We only had this once as we felt there was too much food to eat. After having lunch we preferred a smaller meal.

You could order pizza the day before which we did and it was great. You could sit in the lounge overlooking the snow which was wonderful.

St Moritz is a smaller hotel but quite cosy and comfortable .Rooms were warm, however the last 2 nights we were moved to a corner room which was freezing.I went to reception around 11pm and they kindly brought another heater to the room. The next day they found another room which was smaller but wasn't as cold.

If couples want to book this hotel book the larger room as it it more comfortable with a small lounge and wardrobe!

I would be happy to stay at St Moritz again as staff very friendly and helpful.Itwas great to stay in hotel where guests are not allowed to smoke in the bedroom rooms.

This hotel is suitable for families, couples or singles. It is a bit of a walk to the slopes but there is a shortcut 2 doors down with a steep walk up the hill.Easy to ski back.Overall a good hotel that doesn't cost too much.
Ski conditions great we had fresh snow about 60 cm when we arrived then a top up every few days.Plenty of variety of slopes to ski ......ShigaKogen is our favourite ski resort in Japan.Very quiet for night life but brilliant for skiing and not crowded.

We enjoyed the location as there was a few restaurants in the village, a Kasmiri restaurant which was excellent and a Japanese/Chinese restaurant which was sometimes closed through the week and a few other restaurant in the Main Street which are only open for lunch. All excellent food an well priced!

Regards Narelle and Greg Tuchin

Late January 2015

Great mountain - good terrain and snow - limited options at night (apart from your hotel) - but the best thing was it was nice and quiet.

St Moritz - great friendly staff - a little dated but that added to the character - good location.

Your service - very good - easy process to book - good options presented for our budget. No complaints!

Mid January 2015

We had a great trip thanks.

The St. Moritz was great thx. Everything we expected from a hotel in Ichinose. They served the eggs cold in the morning breakfast but a gentle word about how westerners like their eggs led to a change. All in all good value, great snow. Ill check in with you soon for next year!

Mid February 2014.

Left Madarao in a snow storm and went back to Nagano. it was dumping down.

Caught bus to Shiga Kogen. It took 4 hours to get there because of the storm. Couldnt see anything travelling up. It was a white out. Wasnt sure if I got off at the right place. No one had heard of the hotel. Ended up getting someone to ring hotel & the owner came and picked me up. No english people staying there. Was a nice place for the money and good location to lifts.

One thing that I did find annoying is that they allow people to smoke on the entry level and all you can smell is cigarette smoke which travels into reception and lounge area. Same thing applies here with the arrival meal.

Shiga Kogen is a good resort with plenty of run and a huge area to ski. I found the the new snow get skied out quickly compared to Madarao. This is more apparent where the three prince hotels are in Yamibiko.

Your service was very good and you answered all of my questions in all of my emails. Thanks for your help. If you have any good specials for next season please let me know.

Mid January 2014

Your service was excellent and much appreciated. The accommodation and price you secured for us was exactly what we were after.

And now, being aware of the holiday weekend in Japan in the middle of our stay on the snow, I appreciate how lucky we were that you were able to secure accommodation for us, with no holiday loadings. Thank you again.

The snow and skiing/boarding at Shigakogen was, as ever, excellent. I continue to be amazed at how few people you have to share the slopes with. Even with a long weekend in Japan, there were times on Saturday and Sunday when we had runs to ourselves. There was never any waiting at lifts. And, whilst it cannot ever be guaranteed, the weather was next to perfect – four nights of fresh snow, but basically clear, windless days!

We liked Hotel St Moritz. The rooms were comfortable and suited us. The onsen was adequate. Staff spoke (limited, but) enough English and were very helpful. The hotel wifi worked. Breakfast was good. But dinner was very limited. We only ate in house for dinner once, but this is not a problem as there are 3 or 4 other options for eating out which are quite good.

Also on-snow eating options for lunch are very good, so, with a decent breakfast and good lunch, dinner is less crucial.

As with most (all?) hotels in Ichinose, there is not much in the way of after-snow facilities, but there is a comfortable lounge so, with a few drinks and your own and the company of other guests, evenings can be quite pleasant.

And the big plus with the hotel is its location – just a 50 metre (albeit somewhat uphill – but it’s downhill going home!) walk to the nearest lift which effectively gives you ski/board access to the entire Shiga field. There’s about a 100 metre walk to the bus stop, shops, restaurants.

We are planning on returning to the snow in Japan and would, most likely, go back to Shiga and Hotel St Moritz.

Bruce

"My finance and I stayed at Hotel St Moritz Shiga, Feb 20-24. Despite it being peak season the hotel was quiet, low key, and accordingly, relaxing.

There were a couple of other Western types in the place, one a Kiwi who had been travelling around a number of resorts on his one month Japan trip; He'd been to Hakuba and Nozawa Onsen where he'd met a many Australians. In addition to the great snow conditions, its 'magical powder', he rated Shiga Kogen for its low count of Antipodean neighbors.

We drove there in my old Mitsubishi Pajero Junior which struggled mightily to make it up the last 10k climb in heavy snow. We might not have made if it my better half didn't have the good fortune to be born a Canadian.

There is an onsen bath in the basement beside the lockers and the changing rooms. It's a basic hotel type Japanese bath that doesn't pretend to be more than functional - there are no windows for example - but it feels more than just adequate after a day exploring the many areas and trails of the resort.

Breakfast was included in the room price and was decent with a fairly wide selection of Japanese and Western breakfast staples.

We didn't sample the evening fare opting for the what we were told were limited options down the village. One night we ate at an Okinawan place that we good...nice sake and Okinawan dishes. Two nights we ate at a Nepalese place where we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves scoffing down curries and nan a-plenty.

Hotel St Moritz with its location a couple of minutes walk from the lifts and its reasonable prices was a good choice for us, an evaluation that is primarily driven by the wonderful, wonderful conditions we had on the slopes. It's all about the resort."

"We stayed for 5 nights at Hotel St Moritz in mid January, a family of 4 with 2 older kids.

Staff were welcoming, friendly enough and efficient despite the language difficulty at times but thats our issue really, as we are the visitors to Japan and its all part of the experience.

We had booked dinner for our first night and whilst relatively expensive, it was very nice (order the Japanese dinner not Western as other guest commented they were disappointed with it) the multi course japanese dinner however we found excellent, and we certainly didn't leave hungry.

You can eat elsewhere at Ichinose for cheaper ( the nepalese Curry house for eg) but beyond that you have to search for other dinner options.

Breakfast at St Moritz were buffet style, and mix of japanese and western available and you could go back for as much as you liked so we thought it was very good value compared to other japanese hotel experiences we had where you paid for each portion.

Found the Kitchen and dining room staff to be very nice and always tried to please.

As others have said hotel is little dated in decor but everything is still clean and presentable.

We had a 4 share room with small ensuite capsule bathroom which suited our needs, but the onsen in the basement is the best option for washing/showering in any comfort.

Beds were comfortable and room was warm enough but no control over the temp.

Not much to do in the evenings except watch the sumo on the TV in your room.

Access to ski lifts was OK once you found the short cut, with small kids or if you were not that fit you would struggle with the little climb up the access way. If your a confident skier you can ski back to the front door in the afternoons when snow was good if you risked a bob sled run down the access path.

Ski storage locker room in basement with lockers just big enough for 1 set of skis and your boots. No equipment drying facility for jackets, gloves etc, and limited hanging space for this in your rooms which can be a pain as the room becomes a bit of a chinese laundry.

Overall we found St Mortitz clean, comfortable and convenient.

Would we go back to St Moritz? Probably, but we would probably also look around at other alternatives at Ichinose as well.

Snow was brilliant!"

"Hotel St Moritz Shiga is situated at one end of Ichinose Village, the end you approach from Nagano Station.

It is clean, comfortable and caters well for a place to relax and recover from a hard day's skiing or snowboarding.

Beds were comfortable though the loose bedspread/blanket tended to get kicked off during the night.

The bathrooms are 'capsule' style and very small. The hot water cut in and out, but wasn't overly annoying. However, after my first shower in the room I used the onsen to shower/bathe/rinse. The onsen was quite spartan in the sense that there were no towels provided in the adjoining room - guests needed to bring a modesty towel (provided) from the room, as well as the bathroom towel to dry off. Supplying towels in the change room next to the onsen would improve the experience. The onsen itself was good - only an indoors onsen, but good, and helped relieve tired muscles at the end of the day.

The lobby bar was never open while we were there, and we were there across a weekend. Further, when guests wanted a little apres drink/chat in the lobby after dinner, the lights were turned down, then off, giving us the hint we weren't really welcome to stay in that area. Still, better that than have rowdy guests disturb the sleep of guests in the rooms above. On a positive note, there was no issue with guests taking their own alcohol into the lobby/lounge area and alcohol is readily available in both the hotel vending machines and hotel shop.

Staff were accommodating enough. Yamamoto san booked restaurants in the village for us a couple of times when requested to do so. There are very few dining options in the village that are open to the public. There are plenty of hotels, but some allow only their guests to dine in their hotel.

Access to the snow is not ski in ski out, but there's a cut out path adjacent to the hotel/building a couple of doors down and you have a short, easy climb to Lift 28. From there you can access the whole mountain lift by lift.

Back to the hotel - it is a bit dated in terms of its decor, but that is the same as another hotel we stayed at in Shiga Kogen a couple of years ago. Hotel St Moritz was better than the other hotel. Although it is a bit dated, it is clean and 'did the job' adequately for us. Breakfast was good, I thought, but some of my companions (we were there as a group of 8) weren't happy about the food not being as hot as it could be.

All in all, an enjoyable experience from a hotel that could make some simple improvements to lift it to a new level."

"This was a last minute booking for Christmas and we were lucky to find anywhere with availabilty.

The property itself is well located in ichinose but very dated. It seems that the management are winding down the property as several of the common areas were closed.

Staff were friendly enough.

Bedrooms were similarly dated with very small bathrooms.

Dinner at the hotel was very disappointing - a bizarre mix of japanese and western style fast food.

Although Ichinose does not have a huge number of dining options there are definately better places to eat."

Hakkoda Resort Hotel guest reviews

Late January 2017

The hotel was great and the lovely staff gave me a nice thank you letter (I suspect with the help on Google Translate) on departure. My wife, son-in-law and daughter also had a very good time. Food was excellent as usual.

I will certainly be going back next year.

Thanks
Mark

Early Feb 2016

We left Hakkoda this morning and I would like to say that we had an excellent stay there.

We lived Hakkoda for powder skiing, and we loved staying at Hakkoda Resort Hotel, warmest welcome, great rooms, great onsen, outstanding food!

We definitely look forward to coming again next year!

Thanks,

Isabelle & family

Mid March 2015

We had a wonderful time at the Hakkoda Resort Hotel this past weekend. We enjoyed the Ropeway and skiing. The food was very good at the hotel. The rooms were also very nice.

We had one complaint. The hotel allows smoking in the main lobby and upstairs in the sitting area. There is no place in the hotel to go and sit without sitting in smoke. That was very disappointing.

Thank you again for your help in getting us this reservation.

Early February 2015

We had an amazing time at hakkoda, the accommodation was great, simple rooms which were clean and warm and we loved the traditional feel of the hotel with large onsens, great japanese food and good hosts. Definitely good value. Easy to get to. Got good conditions and some adventurous skiing and exploring. Hardly saw anyone else once off the telecabine. Worthwhie using a guide for a day or two to get the lay of the land. One thing that was a negative was difficult to get back to the hotel if you take one of the longer routes that dont end at the bottom. E.g. at the onsen. Couldn't figure out how to arrange pick ups. Would definitely go back.

Thanks
Paul.

Early February 2015

Terrific hotel with a very calm and nice japanese touch to it. We loved the variety of food and good choice of sake.
Superb hosts and great staff.

Hakkoda as a mountain is very special. Not the steepest but with a good range of backcountry experience.

Bring a guide if you want to access the more remote areas as you will need a shuttle service back to the ropeway.

We didn't have any new snow but it's said to be one of the places where it snows heaviest in all of Japan (maybe the world?).

Would love to visit both Hakkoda and Hakkoda Resort Hotel again.

5/5!

Early February 2015

we had a terrific time visiting Hakkoda and the resort hotel.

We were lucky to enjoy the mountain with clear blue skies and views were wonderful.

I can also testify to the beautiful quality food that we enjoyed at the hotel. Most enjoyable.

Thank you as well for organising the accommodation and transfers. As you know the Japanese trains work like clockwork and we were delighted to have our transfer waiting for us following our arrival.

We have plenty of photos and some movie and will send to you a little later.

Thanks again for you assistance.

Early January 2015

We really enjoyed Hakkoda Resort Hotel.

The staff were excellent. Friendly and helpful, with excellent English skills. I must apologise for my difficulties trying to speak Japanese.

The location works very well. Close to the chair lift and a bit of a walk to the cable car. The public bus stop is reasonably close but fortunately we had a maxi taxi for travelling to and from Aomori.

Evening banquets were superb. It was a varying treat each night.

Breakfasts were substantial with western options. Like most places the choice cereals was limited.

We had a western room, one of only 4 in the hotel. They are quite spacious but like most accommodation we have stayed at there was limited storage and hanging availability. One needs to live out of a suitcase.

The onsens are generous and functional. No view or highlight but most satisfactory.

There is not much around the Hakkoda base but we were there for the skiing and the mountain and weather treated us to some superb kona yuki skiing.

Regards Murray McAlister

Late January 2015

Hakkoda was FANTASTIC.

The mountain was epic with the amounts of snow we got, sometimes even too much causing you to get stuck.
also quite scary and disorientating when the weather comes in.

GPS, snow shoes, whistles and powder boards/ skis are a must really on this mountain when the weather is bad..
In saying that, when you get your bearings, there are endless tree runs in almost every direction, and fresh tracks last all day!

The accommodation was great, the staff were friendly, and the food was AMAZING!

I have attached photos!

thanks for all your help getting us there, you made it super easy and we will be heading back for sure!

That’s me having fun in Hakkoda. (in the pic below)

My husband and I had a great time and in fact will soon be booking again for next year.

The Hakkoda Resort Hotel is very nice and friendly and the food was outstanding. The staff could not be more helpful.

Best wishes

Late January 2015

We loved our stay at Hakkoda Resort Hotel.

We stayed in a western room which was spacious & very comfortable.

The food was exceptional, the service good & the mountain awesome.

Hope to get back there.

Mid January 2015

As for your service, it was outstanding. You went out of your way to help me, even after my trip started.

I will surely do business with you guys again.

The hotel was great. The food was also amazing. But you have to be aware, this is a typically Japanese experience. Only thing though, there was some pretty heavy smoking going on in the hotel. This was problematic for me. But aside from the smoking, the hotel was super. Pretty much ski in/out. What can you ask more ?

Thanks for everything,
Me Jean-Frederick Dicaire

Early January 2015

We really enjoyed our stay at Hakkoda. It snowed alot and the skiing was good.

The lodge quiet, our room was clean and comfortable , the food was great and the small onsen a real treat after skiing.

Smoking is allowed in the common areas in the lounge and we did not expect this, so the lounge smelt smokey.

Cindy

Early January 2015

Thank you so much for all your help with organising Hakkoda Resort Hotel! You made it very easy in booking the accommodation and organising my return transfer to Aomori Airport. The hotel itself was amazing

The food was simply to die for!

The rooms were fantastic - always clean and well attended to.

The staff always smiled and although they spoke little English, they always made the effort and appreciated when I attempted to speak Japanese!

The onsen was clean and of course the snow was out of this world!

Thanks again for helping me to organise this (being a solo traveller it can be a bit daunting) and I will definitely be back!

Early March 2014

"Love this place. I've been 5 times in the last 8 years.

I have boarded every single major resort in Japan, and quite a few of the smaller ones, over the last 15 years, some of them multiple times, and Hakkoda is the best for untouched backcountry.

The quieter backcountry routes within an hour's drive of Niseko (Hirafu) for example see more backcountry traffic per week, than Hakkoda sees per season in my guesstimation.

Long untouched runs. Fabulous nature and views. The hotel is fabulous as always with extremely kind and helpful staff, and good Japanese food.

If you are going backcountry get Simon to take you ... for his unparalled knowledge of the mountain, backcountry safety, local insight, and witty stories"

The hotel was great as always. Only complaint is that my room was overlooking the carpark and the snowploughs woke me up very early every day ... but what to do !

Regards
MATT

Mid January 2014 I had a very good time in Hakkoda !

It's quite a unique experience to ski there, it's good that I booked a guide otherwise I'm sure I would have gotten lost!

The hotel was very nice and walking distance to the ropeway, and the booking process was pretty smooth.

You can find some videos on my Youtube page

Mid February 2014 Everything at the Hakkoda Resort Hotel was fantastic.

The service and food were excellent, and I felt very welcomed there. I also very much appreciated your help in not only making the reservation but also helping when I experienced travel difficulties.

Please thank the hotel for their excellent service.

Andrew Crowley

Mid February 2014 Firstly your service was excellent. Prompt, efficient and helpful.

Onto the mountain, I loved Hakkoda.

It helped that it snowed both days, so the conditions were fantastic. Being fairly quiet without too many Westerners also added to the experience. Tram / lift tickets were very reasonably priced, as was lunch at the restaurant.

As for the Resort Hotel, amazing ! The staff couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly. I liked the basement onsen, particularly the fact there was a hot & cold bath, the rooms were comfortable and the facilities in general were as expected.

Dinner was a sensation every night. I just loved what was on offer. It was both a visual and a taste sensation and on reflection some of the best meals of my 3 week trip, and I went to some nice places.

The only 2 small niggles were:
- the rooms were incredibly hot at night, even with the radiator turned down. If I opened the window, the bleeping from the guy clearing the car park early in the morning was incredibly loud.
- bus stop wasn’t that obvious. We waited outside the ropeway, only to discover we had missed the bus to Shin Aomori as it left from the peaked wooden huts 50 m away

Hardly any major issues.

Attached below are some holiday snaps

Martin

Mid February 2014 Let me start of by saying that your service at JSA was second to none. I meet many Australians whilst traveling in Japan and I mentioned your company and the great service to many of them.

In regards to the holiday, it was fantastic.

In regards to the Hokkoda Resort Hotel I would like to make the following comments

Overall I was very happy with the hotel and would definitely book there again. The staff were all fantastic and very helpful. The rooms were adequate. The one huge surprise was the quality of the dinners at the hotel. The meals were spectacular and better than many of Melbourne's finest Japanese restaurants where you would pay well over $80 AUD for the same meal.

The only negative comment I have in regards to the hotel was the state of the Onsen. The staff stated it was cleaned regularly but every days I could see things floating in the water. There was mould everywhere on the rook and walls. I visited many Onsens whilst in Japan and this one felt the least healthy. However, that did not distract from my enjoyment of the hotel.

Trust that I will be using your services when I return to Japan next time.

Many thanks
Scott Mahony

I thoroughly enjoyed staying at your hotel, i had a traditional room and found it very comfortable. The hospitality from you and your staff was fantastic, along with your eagerness to help in anyway. The meals were a combination of traditional Japanese and western food which was a good combination.

I cannot wait to return,

Thank you,
Mike Bolzon

Early February 2014 "We loved our stay!"

The staff are extremely helpful and polite.

The rooms are clean, have everything you need, and are comfortable and well presented.

And the food is fantastic!

The resort is at the base of the mountain, right by the lift and ropeway, this is a huge advantage for many reasons.

The mountain is amazing. We got it on bad weather but sill had fun in deep powder and definitely want to return.

The city of Aomori is not too far away and well worth an explore.

Hakkoda has a lot to offer. Highly recommended.

Mid January 2014 The hotel was very well located, just a short walk from the two man chair and the ropeway(cable car).

The hotel itself was very comfortable, the food was good and varied and the staff very helpful. A number of the staff spoke some English and certainly enough to help answer any questions.

Our room was typical Japanese style, the heating controls were simple and the bedding very comfortable. There was ample storage for skis, boots and ski clothes, including a drying room, although the whole basement area was warm enough to hang jackets etc.

As a skiing destination it lives up to its billing of having great powder and the snow monsters have to be seen to be believed(basically large fir trees encased in snow and ice).
However in January the weather can be very cold with limited visibility at the top of the ropeway plus high winds. Whilst we were there it snowed every day and we tended to ski off the chairlift as there was ample variety, given the snow conditions, with some great tree skiing. Although the runs were relatively short.

From the top of the mountain it is advisable to take a guide in bad visibility(most of the time whilst we were there!). The terrain can be quite tricky and it is very easy to end up in the wrong place and having to walk out, not easy in 100cm of fresh snow!

Early Janualy 2014 We had a fabulous time and our stay at your resort was the highlight of our Japanese holiday.

I hope we will see you again next year.

Debbie

Early January 2014 Wow - powderhounds said that this was powder country and they weren't wrong.

The backcountry riding was fantastic. The weather was abysmal (apart from one day) but then that is the usual in the powder bowls of Japan. The hotel was this quaint little Japanese lodge with a full breakfast and traditional Japanese dinner. Every meal was an adventure. As is usual with the Japanese, the staff couldn't do enough for you. Nice onsen. I'm coming back next year ! Your service was excellent. Prompt and efficient.

Regards, Yusuf

Late February 2014 "We just want to say thank you for all your help. Especially before we had booked with you"

We had a fabulous time at the hakkoda resort hotel with some amazing snow and food.

Everything has gone exactly as you planned it. Hopefully we'll be back next year and will definitely book through you again. "

Thank you
Fiona

Late January 2014 "The Hotel was very good and also the organization of the trip (traveling, cap, trains etc.) worked without a problem. Thank you for your help in this case"

Unfortunately the weather was bad, so we couldn't really enjoy the deep powder and has also no good pictures.

Maybe it would be great, if you advice the guest that the hotel and the ropeway can payed by credit card, but the all other stuff is by cash and there is no ATM available"

Thanks again,
Daniel

Mid January 2014 "The Hakkoda Resort Hotel is very well located a the base of the lift for the Hakkoda Ski Resort.

"You can expect wonderful Japanese hospitality in a very remote location.

The facility provides the basic hotel amenities with a fabulous Onsen.

Do not be afraid to get a Japanese room if the western rooms are not available. The Japanese room includes a western toilet and sink in the room but the shower is downstairs at the Onsen. You sleep on a futon layed out over the delicat rice mat floor. This was not a problem.

The dinner was excellent and the breakfast was adequate. It is mostly Japanese cuisine. Options are available for allergies other dietary needs. If you speak little or no Japanese, it s not a deterrent. We booked thru japansnowaccomodation.com and had excellent service from our representative,Hisae. Hisae was very helpful when we needed to rearrange our shuttle
service. By the way, the snow here is amazing.

There were a few disappointments about the hotel. The Wifi is poor when everyone wants to get on at night. Wifi is available in the lobby for free but there is also smoking allowed in the lobby."

Mid January 2014 "The accom was fine"

" little bit Faulty towers when it came to breakfast. Needs attention. Dinner was Ok and it would be good if they had a nice lounge area or bar to chill out in.

One of the Aussi Guides that was there spruking in the lodge was a little annoying and spun us full of crap so as we would not find our way around the hill without using a guide. We nutted out the place and found all the exits they were using. Not a good PR person for the lodge. You guys were great thanks."

December 2012 "The hotel was very good - food was great and staff was friendly"

"The staff has quite limited knowledge in english so it was really good to book through japansnowaccomodation who arranged out arrival and departure. On the downside, the hoteö allowed indoor smoking (probably quite common in japan) so it was quite smelly for a non-smoker."

By Anders and Linda

"During my short stay at Hakkoda Resort, the staff was friendly and accomodating"

"We stayed in a nice tatami room with private bathroom, but no shower. The complimentary onsen was very relaxing and helped soothe the muscles after a long day of shredding the powder on the mountain.

Dinner and breakfast were a nice combination of western and Japanese food, very tasty and quite filling for a large man.

The only odd thing about this hotel was the lock down at 10 pm, but there is not much going on for nightlife, so we didn't miss much.

Thank you Hisae for making the arrangements at this nice hotel."

"I only stayed two nights at the Hakkoda Resort Hotel, but it was definitely a good experience"

"The location was great. Staff were friendly (though knowing a little Japanese will certainly come in handy).

And the food was fantastic.

The rooms were comfortable and clean.

One thing that was difficult as a single traveler was the lack of other things to do when not snowboarding (i.e. not much for night life). I saw a bar when I was looking around the hotel, but it wasn't open. So unless you rented a car and can drive back into Aomori, you might be a little bored at night.

Barring that though, the place was great and Hisae was very helpful in making all the accommodations and answering all the questions I had about transportation, etc."

"Hakkoda Resort Hotel provides that typical Japanese service with beautiful food and friendly staff"

"If I have a complaint it would be the allowance of smoking in the Hotel, but I know this is a Japanese standard which hopefully will change with time.

We would not hessitate to return to the Hakkoda Resort Hotel.

Thanks again for your work and assistance towards another fantastic Skiing Holiday.

I will contact you again for 2014."

"The hotel is very good" - Jean-Francois Veilleux

"The staff is friendly. The bar was close during the stay. The food was very good but for one of my friends it was tough because he don't like fish and for the dinner the only option is fish.

Also a Big thank you for Japan Snow Accomodation to help me to arrange the hotel and the transportation!!! I recommend this hotel."

"stayed at Hakkoda Resort Hotel for some days in the beginning of February 2013"

I have no complaints what so ever.

All in the staff was very nice and helpful, the room was nice, and the food was really great.

Ski you later, Ola."

"It has been 8years for me to use this hotel when winter season comes' Chul-Moon Kim

"the most beneficial thing to me is tat this hotel offers free shuttle bus privileged to passengers with Korea airline.

as I have seen hotel staffs for many years and they have become good friends of mine.

I also have been around many ski places around Japan however I would say this place is best one.

only one thing I disappointed at hotel is wireless internet was not successfully provided.

absoultely I will plan to visit this hotel this year again and next year."

"Had a great time here great snow great staff great people wil definatly stay thier again."

"Took my family from US to Hakkoda as part of our tour through Japan...skiing and experiencing Japan.

Hakkoda is a special place...both for skiers/boarders and general travelers as well. Our stay at the resort hotel was great..

awesome location, they will pick you up when back country and you exit back on the road that circumnavigates Hakkoda mountains.

Hotel rooms were clean, staff friendly, nice onsen, and good food. All good!"

Hotel Shirakabaso

Late December 2013

"We have booked hotel Shirakabaso trough Japan Snow Accommodation. All our inquiries about hotel were answered by the staff very promptly.

The staff also provided us with some hints and tips that were very handy for us while we were arranging entire trip to Japan. Thanks to the staff from Japan Snow Accommodation for our trip to go so smooth.

Hotel Shirakabaso is a hotel that can cater for everyone. For someone who just wants to relax or for a family.

As soon as we entered hotel we felt welcome. The staff were so comforting and helpful.

The rooms were cosy and were able to accommodate four of us and made us feel comfortable.

After a long day of skiing we would come to the room and go to the hotel's communal bath (despite our room had en-suite with the bath). It was a great cultural experience The bath also had all necessities to make this experience very relaxing.

The hotel's outdoor onsen is one not to be missed and it was spectacular, just feeling the cold of the snow but also the heat from the pool and just the piece and quiet made it a lot more relaxing.

After the onsen we would go to have dinner. This was a one of the things we were looking forward to every day. At first it isn't much but they just keep bringing more and more delicious food. By the end of dinner all four of us would be full as there was so much variety. The breakfast in the morning was very similar and would give us lots of energy for the day.

The hotel has skiing gear for rentals as well as some stuff for little kids.

Hotel's location is also very convenient for exploring Shiga Kogen by ski or by shuttle bus.

Overall the hotel is very cosy. The manager and staff are fantastic and helpful. Service were great and the food was delicious. We would definitely recommend this hotel for its hospitality and facilities and great cultural experience.

North Point Pension

Late January 2014 I had a wonderful trip.

"The serviced received from yourselves was very helpful and accommodating. You found me a very suitable room at my preferred budget during the peak time of the season.

The chalet itself was nicely furnished and the room was a generous size.

The hosts were very friendly and added to the ambience of the accommodation.

Mid February 2014.

Thank you for recommending North Point Pension for my recent trip to Niseko Hirafu.

Tim and Nic made my holiday! North Point is kept immaculate, and has all the facilities required for a comfortably stay and a great skiing experience.

The shuttle bus was frequent and not far from the chalet, I even walked home from the slopes on several occasions.

Overall I had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to go back next year!

Thanks
Katherine Earl

Late February 2014

"North Point is kept immaculate, and has all the facilities required for a comfortably stay and a great skiing experience.

Day starts with a fabulous breakfast, then its mountain time with the fist run my Tim or Nic in the lodge van to the lifts. Generally there will be a second run around 9am for those in not such a hurry, which is kind of good , as there are no lift ques at this time.

Enjoyed the mountain, snow was great , and a nice change from skiing in Australia. I would go back again, in fact my mate I travelled with is already planning a group to return to North Point next year.

Once again thank you, and a huge thank-you to Nic and Tim at North Point Pension for their superb hospitality, and a lodge run to the highest standards."

Late February 2014

"On my third trip to Niseko, we stayed at North Point Pension. We absolutely loved it!

Our hosts were incredibly helpful and accommodating, even making our "made to order" breakfast each morning with eggs and bacon. They helped us with rentals, transportation, and recommendations for everything from restaurants to onsens. Thank you Nikki and Tim!

The pension had well spaced rooms that were very clean with heated floors (a must in the winter!). There were plenty of sinks and bathrooms for guests to use and an enormous showering area. They also had two living room areas to lounge or watch television and movies. Tons of bars and restaurants were within walking distance and the bus was less than five minutes away.

I would definitely stay at North Point Pension next time and recommend it to anyone going to Niseko."

Early February 2014

"The trip to Niseko was absolutely superb.

Tim & Nic were very accommodating at North Point and the living arrangements were very comfortable.

Thanks for making the arrangements.

We are seriously considering planning for another trip."

Mid January 2014

"We had the most amazing time! We got North Point Pension so last minute and I don't think we could have found better accommodation. We were so happy with the lodging, and especially with the managers Tim and Nic.

The mountain was fantastic. We were lucky enough to get hooked up with some locals who showed us all the secret spots and it made the trip so special. We took a couple day trips to Kiroro and Rusutsu. I would highly recommend that others take some day trips to other resorts. It is very cool to experience some of the smaller resorts that are less catered to westerners.

We were incredibly happy with Niseko, such delightful food available everywhere and such welcoming people. I will definitely be back and am considering making it my home for a season or more! Thank you for helping us find lodging last minute. You were wonderfully helpful and we will definitely use you again!"

Early January 2014

We had an excellent trip, everything went buttery smooth all the way.

The mountain and it's conditions is as everyone knows world class, at least in the powder department. Prices are reasonable, and also worth mentioning is the food, in most places the food is diverse, made to go fresh and tasty. Our accommodation, I can't speak highly enough about it. Fairly central location, clean, nice rooms, brilliant breakfast and some really knowledgeable, helpful and sweet hosts.

All info I received from you guys were accurate and helpful and made our trip a breeze.

January 2014

"North Point is by far the most relaxed and comfortable place I've stayed at in Hirafu

The pension itself has all the features needed post powder day such as a sitting room and separate TV room. The rooms are clean and larger than typical Japanese pensions.

The breakfast supplied keeps you going all day and there are snacks supplied at the end of the day. There is a drying room running continously so your ski kit will be toasty warm each morning.

North Point is close to all ammenities such as the lifts, shops and restaurants even though it's located in the lower part of the village. It's no more than a 10 min walk to the closest lift. The best onsen in town is a 3 min walk away.

Tim & Nic run the loadge and are always on hand to look after all the guests needs such as supplying a washing machine and dryer free of charge. They pick you up from the bus stop when you arrive and run you to the lifts each morning. If they can help, they will.

I've had a fantastic 10 night stay here and will gladly come back. Some rooms have a kind of mezzanine annex so could be good if you had a third person with you"

February 2013

"North Point was a great place to stay tucked in a nice quiet part of town.

Nic and Tim were very accommodating. They picked me when I arrived and drove me to the lifts that following morning. Room were awesome and spacious. Thanks.
