Late January 2017

Hotel Daimaru was conveniently located a 2min walk to Akakura Onsen lifts, the hotel rooms were huge by Japanese standards- plenty of room for laying out damp snow gear. The breakfast buffet was good and lockable snowboard racks in the downstairs storage room was a bonus. Great location, good value and epic Myoko powder.

Cheers Jodie

Mid January 2017

we had a great time at Hotel Daimaru. Our rating would be excellent for service, breakfast, onsen and location. Medium for hotel maintenance as it really needs some light renovation work (paints are peeling, carpet is very old and worn).

Having said that, i would go back and hope for a little refresher of the place :-)

Mid January 2017

HUGE snowfalls in Myoko but the whole ski area layout unfortunately is a logistical challenge and pretty tiring on kids in particular with all the walking and poor lift connectivity. The skifields are pretty flat too and you need steeper terrain for those snow fall quantities.

Whilst clean and Huge rooms the Daimaru is really really tired with wallpaper peeling off etc. The colours of the dated interior, vinyl floors and carpet etc was so bad it was laughable and everyone had a great joke about it. That said I would still recommend it and it was fine.

Hint for future bookings: You dont want to be in a room facing the road at Daimaru. The noise of the snow movers every night between 2am and 5am was pretty bad and caused sleeping challenges.

Your assistance in this trip was fantastic.

Thanks so much again.

Early January 2016

Hotel Daimaru was an interesting place to stay.

On the downside it is very rundown and in need of some renovation.

However it is clean and comfortable with large rooms and the staff were really friendly and helpful. It is an easy walk to chairlifts at akakura onsen resort and from there access to Akakan resort was convenient. It is also possible to walk through the village to the Akakan resort. We travelled on the shuttle bus to nearby suginohara resort and had 2 great days there with good snow and no crowds.

We had exceptionally good service at Spicy snowboard/ski hire shop, their equipment was good, well maintained and the staff went out of their way to ensure we had suitable gear.

We had a seriously sensational holiday. Hurry Slowly was an excellent choice and JSA made the organisation very easy. It takes a while to get used to the Japanese beds but we would love to stay there again.

Stuart.

February 2012 "Very nice apartment!

Especially love the lift in the 3 bedroom condo!

Short walk to the free shuttle and around 10-15 mins walk to restaurants.

Overall services are great (e.g. free pick up on arrival even it's very late at night and help us bought lift tickets before our arrival) but make sure to double confirm with the office staff on pick up to the apartment and from the apartment to welcome centre/Kutchan station on departure."

Mid Jan 2016

Your service is excellent. Whithout you, I would have been unable to find an accomodation in this peak period.

The accomodation was great and the owner of the Ryokan very friendly.

We loved the village too, and the dosijin worth to be seen, really impressive and interesting (and you can have some sake shots on the slopes !).

The ski lift were not too crowded, althought it was the aussie's holiday. This is a really good point.

I was disapointed by the snow coverage, a lot of bottom slopes were closed...I'm use to in europ, bad luck in Japan. I'm an expert backcountry skier, Nozawa lacks of steep run, and the space between trees is not sufficient in the forest to ski in (except on the side of Hikage gondola, acess by first station of the other gondola). Some nice runs too from the skyline on both sides. But many trees...

Thanks again Hisae, I will certainly take your advice for my next season in Japan !

Thank you so much for arranging such beautiful, picturesque, cultural and comfortable accommodation at such a good price (at the last minute) in such a fabulous location! The entire town is perfection; beautiful and ancient and culturally rich and an absolute joy to visit.

The walk to and from our accommodation each day was always a highlight, we absolutely loved the fire festival, and even though the snow was average it was nonetheless one of the best holidays I've ever been on.

The accommodation itself was fantastic, the food was absolutely outstanding, but by far the highlight were the staff. Please send a very special thank you to our hostess (I'm so sorry I've forgotten her name!). Nothing was too much trouble, and all the staff went above and beyond to help us silly Aussies to understand and fully appreciate their town.

We have been raving about the trip for months now, recommend the village, the accommodation and of course your services to anyone who will listen, and are already plotting to go back.

Thank you Hisae for making our trip wonderful!

Kind regards,

Melanie

Early Jan 2016

We had a wonderful trip. Nakajimaya Ryokan was exactly what we wanted. It is a beautifully run, traditional ryokan serving wonderful food. It is clean, comfortable and convenient for skiers moving to and from the peaks of Nozawa Onsen. We hope we can return some time soon.

Best wishes,

Late Dec 2015

We loved staying at Nakajimaya Ryokan and experiencing a traditional Japanese Inn. Yukiko, her family and staff were all exceptionally kind and helpful, always giving us good advice and explaining Japanese customs when necessary. Our rooms were both quiet and spacious with plenty of room for the family to relax at the end of the day. It was a real draw card having a private onsen within the ryokan and we made good use of this everyday.

Nozawa is a gorgeous village with many restaurants and bars, we were able to find a different place to eat every night and also enjoyed a superb meal at the Nakajimaya Ryokan as well. We will definitely be going back there.

Late January 2015

We loved our holiday in Japan.

Thanks you for booking us into Nakajimaya Ryokan.

We had an amazing family experience and loved the Ryokan.

The family were fantastic hosts and very helpful.

We would love to stay there again.

Certainly the walk to and from the ski hill through the village streets was enjoyable every day and we liked being a bit out of the busy areas.

I have attached a few photos from our stay to show you!

So thanks so much for looking after us!

Cheers,

Early January 2015

Just wanted to let you know that our Nozawa Onsen trip was a big success and we all had an excellent stay at the Nakajimaya Ryokan.

The hosts at the Ryokan were always friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.

Please pass on our thanks to them.

Getting to the snow via Shinkansen, local train and bus was stress free and like everything else in Japan, was on time and schedule.

And the skiing was superb.

Hopefully we’ll do it again next year.

Thanks

Attached are the happy customers.

Mid January 2014

We had a wonderful time at Nozawa Onsen thankyou

Your service was wonderful , esp finding something so perfect for us at relatively late notice., at a busy time of year.

We really loved Nakajimaya Ryokan

Loved the traditional nature of it and being exposed to other Japanese travellers and staff as well , rather than the 1st lodge we stayed at for the first 3 days which was great but not especially Japanese.

The lady in charge was absolutely beautiful to us and so kind and helpful- she was gorgeous.

The food was amazing and we loved the exposure to the traditional dishes and table arrangements .

It was nice also to experience the in house onsen without having to go out in the cold to get there.

The masseuse across the road was very good after a day of skiing and really enjoyed being able to walk easily to everything in the village esp for the fire festival.

Even able to come back to the rooms for a while to watch where the festival was up to , then go out again later on . Rooms very cosy and comfortable.

Was not too far a walk to the travellator either to get to the ski fields.

The woman in charge of the hotel was very good with making bookings etc for us-very reliable and great service.

Absolutely loved the village and the skiing.People friendly .

Snow wonderful. Very pretty and long green runs , so enjoyable with children – they loved it .

Beautiful and interesting village and so glad we saw the fire festival . Nice to have more a traditional glimpse of everything.

Only thing to mention to people is book your restaurant meals ahead as it is a small village and venues get booked out ahead .

Thanks for your help

Would love to go back

Late January 2014

My wife and I stayed at Nakajimaya Ryokan, Nozawa Onsen in February 2014.

The rooms are large and comfortable, staff are helpful, smiling and courteous always, and the food is amazing.

Many other great restaurants are nearby, as well as numerous free public onsens, 1 of which is right outside the front door.

When we return to Nozawa, we will be staying at Nakajimaya Ryokan."

Mid January 2013 "This is an excellent traditional ryokan.

The family that run it are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable and well decorated and the food is of a very high quality. I recommend having breakfast here and the dinner is also excellent. we spent a week here before heading off to hokkaido and it was one of the highlights of our trip."

Mid January 2014.

My stay at Madarao totally exceeded my expectation.

The accommodation was great, well-heated, absolutely beautiful scenery, it was comfortable and not at all crowded. Naoko made our stay so lovely and enjoyable. She was so hospitable, friendly and the food she made was top quality.

I would have to say that it was the best all-round accommodation, meals and service that I received my entire trip in Japan.

The mountain was amazing, it looked beautiful and I had so much fun snowboarding on the slopes.

I would most definitely stay at Madarao Alpbach again, and am hoping to do so soon!

Below are some photos from my trip

Mid January 2014 "We had such a fantastic time at Alp Bach. Naoko and Ukihiro are such wonderful people.

They made us feel like we were part of their family. Our stay there is a beautiful memory. We had fresh snow most days. And had some fun times with other Japanese families too.

Thanks for your support and concern for our arrangements. We are so lucky to have you as our agent. Thankyou for your professional and prompt service."

Luke

Mid January 2013 "We ended up being the only guest through most of our stay meaning we felt like we were living in a big house with an open fireplace and views of the ski hill.

Access to the ski hill was a 50m walk over the road to strap in. At the end of the day the ski out was similar with a short walk over a car park to get home.

We ended up having dinners at the place for 2000 yen and they were massive four coarse meals so we actually asked for a little bit less food. The food was fantastic and the breakfast were great. The owner family were great and we met the whole family, even the dog who was very friendly. I am pretty confident in saying in the 5 trips to Japan visiting over a dozen major ski destinations in Japan our group was probably the most relaxed and enjoyed there stay at the Alp Bach the most. Normally as a group we look for new places to ski but as a group we are all talking about when we can get back to Madarao. So thanks for the recommendation and I thought you would like to know."

Early February 2014 Madarao is a great Resort, it has everything from good beginner runs, thru blues to steeps and unlike most other resorts, they have a number of treed areas open for skiing.

We virtually skied these areas all week and the snow was still great when we left. Admittedly it did snow all week and kept things topped up.There are no lift lines mid week and certainly not crowded even on weekends, I don't know how Madarao has kept out of the spotlight so long. (Don't tell too many people)

Fox Alley was good accommodation, the owners were very helpful and friendly, they provided "western style" breakfast and a traditional Japanese meal when we stayed in for dinner. Our rooms were "western style" beds and bathroom / toilet very clean and comfortable. Both hosts spoke quite good English and the woman is attending classes to improve further. ( not really necessary in my opinion but she is very keen to learn, she helped my Japanese and I her English)

They dropped me at the station in Iiyama when I left and drove us to restaurants a couple of nights. I'm not sure they could do the restaurant bit for everyone if they had more guests.

The only downside to Fox Alley is it's location, access to the lifts is OK, a short (2/3 min) walk in the morning and a ski down to the lifts, and same getting back, a short ski /skate and short walk. It is however, a 20 min walk to get to the restaurants (which are excellent by the way) but a bit of a drag if it's a windy , snowy night. All things considered though not a bad choice, I would certainly stay there again, we had fantastic week.

The service from JSA was first class you answered all my e-mails and questions promptly and came up with accommodation that satisfied my needs, you offered some general advice about what to expect in these less frequented locations.

Below are some images of our trip.
