Mid Jan 2019

Thank you for organising our Japan snow trip for us.

The Akakura Hotel Annex. This was an interesting hotel. The ceiling was very low as was the doors. I am only 6ft tall and had to duck all the time for fear of hitting my head. The Akakura hotel itself looked great although we didn’t see inside any rooms, but the annex section was a different storey. The room was a good size but the bathroom was so tiny we had to rest our knees on the wall when going to the toilet to fit in. Perhaps the worst bit was the boiler kicked in at 6am and 9pm to warm the hotel and it was so noisy that nothing could sleep through it. The beds were much better, but the service was no way near as good. The reception at the annex was not available a lot of the time, and so a long walk down an alleyway to the Akakura Hotel was needed on many occasion for assistance. The onset at the Akakura hotel was one of the best I have been it, but the the annex indoor onsens was so hot I could not even get in it. The location was very good however. I would recommend the Akakura hotel, but definitely not the Akakura Hotel Annex.

I will contact you mid year about next years snow trip.

Kind regards
Ant

The Hotel is just three minutes’ walk from the Akakura Onsen Ski Area and all other area resorts can be reached by free shuttle bus (apart from the Seki Onsen Ski Area, for which low-cost bus service is available.

Kids love the snow—and in Myoko, finding a safe place to play can be difficult (remember, with an annual average of 13 meters of snow, roof avalanches—snow falling from roofs—are a serous matter!).
We've set out an area in our garden where children can make build a snowman or slide on sleds in safety.

Myoko is in the Niigata prefecture and consits of Akakura, Seki Onsen, Suginohara & Ikenotaira. Other reosrts close by include Nozawa Onsen and Shiga Kogen. The main village is the Akakura area. You can travel by the mountain shuttle bus to go skiing and snowboarding in the other areas. We can arrange the Myoko Big 4 lift passes which are the common ski passes for these four resorts.

If it is possible to have one area that tickes all the boxes it is Myoko. Firsty, it has excellent snow, but also a varitey of runs to suit all levels. It is not a westernised like some Japanese resorts have become and still retains its Japanese culture, yet it still has enough English services such as English speaking lessons & day care and some western style accommodation options. It is not a big town, but there are plenty of resteraunts and bars to chose from.

It is about 90 minutes from Tokyo to Nagano station by Shinkansen bullet train and change to a local train which takes about 40 minutes to Myoko Kogen Station. We can arrange a pick up and drop off for Myoko Kogen station. But the easiest way to get there would be the direct airport transfers.
