Chalet Shiga guest review

Late Feb 2017

The Chalet Shiga was very good value for money however we unfortunately got very sick with influenza on arriving at Shiga Kogen – probably from the flight over as they say it takes about a week to affect you and we had a week at Hakuba before heading to Shiga.  I skied for only 2 hours out of a planned 4 days skiing.  The rest of the family were not quite as sick and got a day or two in skiing.

The rooms were good (I know as I spent most of my time in it) and the onsen was great.  Service at the hotel was also great as was the Tapas Bar downstairs.  Ski storage room was great for storage and plenty of seating to get yourself organised. The ski hire shop across the road was a bit dodgy in the quality of equipment they were giving out (this was a general feeling from our whole group) – not sure where else we could have gone but next time I would source elsewhere.

Would recommend and stay there again

Early Feb 2017

Chalet Shiga was exactly what we had hoped for and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will most likely return next year.We enjoyed good clean rooms and amenities and a  good breakfast. We loved having an Onsen each day after a hard day’s skiing. The staff were helpful and friendly and a number spoke good English. We found the heated ski locker room a bonus. The hotel is opposite a ski lift which made access easy  and we could ski back to the front door each day. Discount lift tickets were available at the reception desk. Our only minor problem was finding a restaurant in town for our evening meal as several were closed, particularly on weekends. The restaurants that were open were generally booked out. We experienced this last year as well and were told that it was because there were several school groups visiting. I can’t understand why it is necessary to close restaurants and miss out on the trade. It actually became a bit of a joke with other guests and a race to find a meal.

Peter, Barbara and Michael.

Early January 2017

Great time in Japan.

Snow was light on in Appi and Zao which was a shame but it bucketed in Shiga.Loved Chalet Shiga.

The owners are fantastic.Rooms are spotless, big, spacious, front rooms have amazing views of the slopes and in a great spot. Good little izakaya 20m away and in the chalet they have a fantastic simple restaurant which was amazing -local beers, wine and good home cooked food. Breakfast really good. Straight across the road to a ski lifGreat variety of slopes  -had a terrific 4 days. Highly recommend Chalet Shiga to everyone -families, couples.

Heaps of snow.

 Mid Jan 2016

We travelled as a family of 7 to Japan and stayed at Chalet Shiga for 4 nights in January. We had the most memorable time here. The accommodation was great. We had 3 of the tatami mat rooms and as requested had 3 fantastic rooms next to each other. They were very clean and comfortable, and we all loved the robes and slippers provided.

Mr Sato was so helpful and was always eager to explain buses and help with timetables, especially when we were trying to make the trip to the snow monkey park. All the staff were lovely, polite and helpful.

The Chalet is in the best location and we just walked across the road to a couple of chair lifts. The skiing was also fantastic and once again all the staff were so friendly and polite.

We definitely plan to return as soon as we can make it. The whole experience in the snow was made so enjoyable by the great service provided by Japan Snow accommodation especially Hisae, and by all the people at Chalet Shiga.

Late January 2015

The Shiga leg of the trip was excellent. Lots of snow, Hide and his wife were superb hosts, the accommodation on the snow worked really well. I cannot comment on how good the snow was, how short the lift queues were and how easy it was to get around (with our limited Japanese). We loved the Chalet Shiga and the owners (Hide and Hideyo (?) were beautiful people. If you had an email for them please send to me so I can thank them properly. I did not realise how much his family is a part of the local history.

We also caught a bus on several days to travel to nearby ski fields– many you can easily ski to and from! The view from the Bakery on a clear day was impossible to describe! Highly recommended.

Some travellers may be potentially unsure of the lack of western “things” but they should not be worried, the experience is a pleasure and everyone local is so friendly that language barriers and new foods are simply part of the fun!

I attach a number of photos for you to use as you wish.

The small trouble we had was the small number of restaurants to eat at but we managed to find enough to keep us full and happy for a week!

Thank again for your help in finding great accom, brilliant snow and a wonderful Japanese holiday. We have been to ski in Japan 5 times and each time is an incredible holiday and cultural experience.

Many thanks again

The Bradbury family (Sydney Australia).

She was able to answer all our questions about travel, transfers,
money etc Would have no hesitation in recommending Japan Snow

Thanks again for your help.

"The trip was a blast! I have no complaints at all about the stay.

It was well-kept and the rooms were very large, plus it had a bar downstairs which was quite nice.

One suggestion I do have is to try and find a more detailed map of the some of the bars, restaurants and shops within maybe a 20 minute walking distance. We ended up doing our own exploring, but it would have been nice to have more of an idea of what is around us since we are more or less limited to what's available up in the mountain.

Thank you for your great service and a wonderful holiday!

"First, the staff at Chalet Shiga was extremely friendly and helpful" - Ming

They had our dinner ready, even though we arrived late and past their dining hours. They walked to the lifts with us to make sure our lift passes worked properly.

Second, we enjoyed the spaciousness of the tatami rooms.

Third, the location was great, right across from the lifts.

Needs improvement: The breakfast...while they offered both the traditional Japanese-style and the Western-style breakfast, the overall options left us pining for properly cooked eggs and good-for-you items (fresh fruit, whole wheat bread, muesli, yoghurt...).

Honourable mention to Hisae Cameron for being super helpful and patient with us!"

"WE were very happy with the our stay at the Chalet Shiga" - Bernie

The tatami rooms are very spacious, warm and housekeeping was great.

The food was nice and always ready. Eggs where cold in the morning, as everything was also ready when we came.

Staff where all very nice and helpful, and if we would have worried enough about it and said something, I'm sure they would have cooked them, when we arrived for breakfast.

The internet was fast and sometimes worked in the room also.

The location is perfect, you can ski in and out.

We would stay there again anytime. Thank you"

Fujio Pension

Early February 2014 Madarao Fujio Pension. My trip to Japan was great.

Madarao ski resort was great. You can also ski the adjoining resort of Tangram circus for an additional 1500 yen.

Pension Fujio was really nice and I enjoyed the meals that Kimmi made.Very reasonable for 2000 yen per meal. Normally around 5 –6 courses.

Very clean rooms and a really nice inside Japanese bath in the basement level.

One thing that I think you should advise people is to book the first nights meal in advance. Its very annoying when you have travelled all day and they tell you you cant have dinner because you need to book the night before.

There are no laundry services which would be good. Had to wash my clothes in the sink in the room. They should buy a washer & dryer.

We had a warm spell before I got to Madarao and was lucky that it turned back to winter and we received heaps of new snow.

Your service was very good and you answered all of my questions in all of my emails.

Thanks for your help. If you have any good specials for next season please let me know.

Mid January 2014 - "Our stay at Fujio Pension at Madarao Kogen was fantastic!

Takeshi and his wife are wonderful hosts and their Pension is very warm, homely and welcoming.

The meals and breakfasts were five out of five stars! Accommodation very comfortable and we felt right at home. Takeshi has a great knowledge on the area and his lifts and pick ups to the slopes everyday was wonderful- saved our sore powder legs! The mountain is great! Excellent snow, great tree skiing, good variety of terrain and nice little restaurants for lunch. Would love to re visit for more exploring!

Thank you Fujio Pension and Japan snow Accommodation (Hisae) for a seamless and wonderful experience.

If you are interested Hisae, I have a snow brand called Forcaster! We are making snow clothing such as beanies, hoodies and tees. Check it out and tell your friends! www.forcastersnow.comwww.facebook.com/forcastersnow

"we missed the connnecting bus due to an acccident on the railway.

However we rang ahead and Kitamura san met us at the bus.

The service was exceptional, the food was fantastic, we were taken to the ski resort promptly each day and picked up promptly at our convenience.

Our stay was memorable and we would recommend this to others.

Thankyou"

Furano Guest House Guest reviews

Furani Guest House

Late December 2015

We had a fantastic time again.

We all really liked the resort of Furano. The lodge was in a great location, easy to walk to slopes. The rooms were so nice, large, spacious, spotlessly clean and lovely view out to some trees.

It was difficult to communicate with the lady that seemed to be in charge. The lodge was very quite, a bit too quite around the place and lacked a bit of atmosphere. It would have been nice to have the fire on in the night time to sit around and have a drink etc.

Breakfast was OK but being there for a week we had the same breakfast every morning which got very boring -same fruit, same egg dish etc.

Wifi was also problematic. Funny codes, unreliable in rooms etc.

For what they were charging some of the above elements were disappointing.

Thanks again for all your help.

Linda

Mid February 2014 Yes we loved Furano Guest House.

I stayed there before – about 3 or 4 years ago.

The operators are lovely people, the accommodation is first class and charming, the attention to detail is obvious and the location is almost perfect for the Kitanomine ski lifts.

I would go back tomorrow.

Appi Grand Villa 3 guest reviews

Late January 2017

Stayed at Appi Grand Villa 3 for 4 days in Jan 2017.

This hotel is quite big ( about 13 floors ) comfortable, but not over the top. Facilities are good, including Onsen and staff very friendly and helpful, you could get away with little or no Japanese language as most spoke some English.Virtually ski in ski out, just a 2 minute walk before you can ski down to the lift and you can ski back to the door. This hotel is a little way from the main Appi Grand Hotel where you can use their facilities with no additional cost but there is a regular free shuttle around the resort so you can access the main area quite easily.

Advanced runs are confined to the top part of the mountain, all with various lengths of green to get back onto the lifts. The most challenging run, with a tree run thru the middle of a split ungroomed run, is short  and has a long green run to access and even longer green back to the lift. If you are looking to be challenged all day I'd suggest this is not the mountain for you, if you like a bit of black and are happy with a good bit of cruising reds (our blue) and greens, then Appi would suit just fine.I travelled from Haneda airport to Morioka by train (Via Tokyo) and bus from Morioka station, I had no delays but recommend checking connections, to avoid waiting time.

Hisae at Japan snow accommodation organised all my accommodations in her usual friendly and efficient manner, re arranging dates to work in with my itinerary as we went, also picking up the deals with meals and lift ticket inclusions that were available. Hisae has organised my Japan trips for a number of years now and I will continue to use Japan Snow Accommodation in the future.

Late January 2015

Hisae (Japan Snow Accommodation booking Agent) was very easy to communicate with, very organised and kept me up to date. The whole booking process flowed very smoothly and I was really happy with the service.I would definitely use Japan Snow Accomodation again.

My week long stay at Appi Grand Villa 3 was wonderful. The staff are very helpful and nothing is too much bother.

The main gondola is only a short ski away.

The hotel rooms are big by Japanese standards and had a great view over the surrounding mountains.

The buffet breakfast consists of Japanese or continental selections and there is plenty of variety.

Lockable ski lockers for your ski gear next to the mountain exit on the ground floor.

There is a large onsen in the basement.

There are regular shuttle buses to transport you to the other hotels in the Appi resort complex or back to Morioka. Appi is only a sort bus or train ride from morioka( about 1 hour).

Appi resort also run a day trip to Shimokura resort on Fridays.

I would definitely recommend a visit - a small resort with only 3 lifts and hardly any skiers.

The snow we had the day we visited was some of the best i have ever skied in Japan. It was a great day of skiing at a tiny resort. Appi is a good sized resort and has some good steep runs and long runs.It takes a few days to explore properly.

We got loads of snow while we were there,I really enjoyed my visit to Appi.

We loved our time in Japan thank you Hisae.  Your assistance with bookings was very efficient and helped make the process seamless. We really enjoyed our stay at Ryokan Jon Nobi and the staff and locals we encountered throughout Nozawa Onsen were friendly, efficient and helpful. We would definitely recommend a stay for families. And importantly, the snow was incredible!

Late December 2015

Ryokan Jonnobi is ideal for a family who want to experience Japanese style accommodation, in the heart of Nozawa Onsen village. Great location, handy to shops and cafes, and very close to the Yu Road [a travelator “road”] which delivers you to the Hikage ski trail.

Our 2 rooms accommodated our family of 6 comfortably, in tatami rooms with ensuites. The staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was extensive, catering for both Japanese and western foods experiences. Jonnobi has 2 hot spring rooms which are open to the public, as well as 2 private hot spring rooms for exclusive use by the guests; the latter 2 are open to the sky, so that the snow fell languidly through the opening onto our steaming bodies – a great thrill. Jonnobi ticked all our boxes.

The Hikage ski trail was a great family place, well organized with good instructors, ski equipment hire and plenty of eating choices.

The staff of Japan Snow Accommodation [read Hisae] gave great tips in the planning stages of our visit. eg. Take the bullet train from Tokyo to Iiyama Station and a bus from there to Nozawa Onsen village.

Ryokan Jonnobi is a 5 minute walk from the bus station. The whole experience satisfied all members of our family aged 10 to 74 years.

Mid January 2015

Many thanks for all your time and assistance with booking our Nozwa Onsen experience staying at Jon Nobi Ryokan. We found the accommodation at Jon Nobi very warm, quiet, with comfortable beds after a full day of skiing and the breakfast selection of Asian and western foods each morning contained plenty of choice for both adults and children.

There were two private onsens that could be used exclusively plus a male and female onsen open for all to use. These were all kept very clean and neat. Toiletries and hair dryers were also supplied in the private and public onsen areas that added a lovely touch. Kimonos and slippers were also supplied in our rooms for going to and from the onsens which were quite a novelty for the children.

Jon Nobi is situated in a great location at the top of the town and such an easy walk to the ski field via the moving walkway (Yu Road travelator). A huge plus at the end of each day was the ability to leave our skis at the St. Anton Ski hire rooms. This made the end of a long day skiing with kids so much more pleasurable than having to cart skis and poles back to our accommodation.

The slopes at Nozwa Onsen are great for families wanting to ski together and there is a variety of slopes depending on your skill level and ability with plenty of connecting lifts. There was also a large children's play park at the base of the slopes near St. Anton ski hire centre with rubber tyres and sleds that the children could use.

The only issues we had whilst in Nozwa Onsen was that the Ryokan style of accommodation was probably a bit too small to accommodate a family of 4 all with ski clothing to dry at the end of each day in our room plus all of our luggage. If there had been a drying room on the premises we would have had more room to move. In saying this, we wanted to try the Ryokan style of accommodation to experience a more traditional Japanese style of accommodation. Knowing the layout of a Ryokan and taking into consideration the amount of stuff we all had, we should have booked two rooms side by side.

The only other disappointing issue was as a guest of Jon Nobi we thought that we would have been able to dine in the restaurant at least one night during our stay, however we were told that the restaurant was fully booked during our stay. We since found out that the bookings were from people staying else where and not at Jon Nobi. We thought as guests staying at the Ryokan, we would have had first option to restaurant bookings. That was a bit sad Emoji.

However, the overall experience was wonderful and we enjoyed staying in a different location for part of our holiday. Many thanks again Hisae for all your assistance and for making our holiday in Nozwa Onsen very enjoyable.

Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel

Mid February 2014

Shiga was wonderful. We had forgotten just how good it is. Plenty of variety, good facilities and great snow.

Prince west was very good.  It’s location is excellent.  Long, enjoyable runs right on our doorstep.  We like to get out early and enjoy the snow while it is still in pristine condition.  Prince was perfect for this.

We couldn’t fault the rooms, staff were friendly and helpful.  The bed and breakfast rate was excellent value.   View from our twin room was wonderful (attached photo).  We particularly enjoyed the breakfast arrangement.  Everything from traditional Japanese to cooked western to fruit and yoghurt.

Only negative comment was the dinner arrangement.  Dinner in the hotel was expensive (4,000 yen pp fixed price), and didn’t look that inviting.  We had dinner next door at the Chinese restaurant or walked into Ichinose.  The walk only took about 10 minutes and was actually quite enjoyable.

We certainly plan to return, and will probably stay at Prince West again.  I will be in touch later in the year to get things organised.    I have already recommended the hotel to a couple of people.

Thank you for all your help and advice with the holiday, we are already looking forward to next year’s trip.

One Happy Family

January 2014

We had a another terrific holiday skiing in Japan- we all enjoyed it very much.

Shiga Kogen and Nozawa are, as you will be aware, very different and so there were mixed opinions within the family as to which place was best.

Some of us enjoyed Shiga Kogen best as the quality of the snow was great (we had some lovely powder snow while we were there) and there was good access to a large range of different ski areas.

The rooms at the Prince Hotel (East) were comfortable and had a wonderful view onto the slopes and the hotel is absolutely ski in- ski out. The reception staff spoke reasonable english and were very helpful. The lack of internet in the rooms meant that all the guests congregated in the lobby, which was not particularly comfortable or atmospheric, to get wifi access in the late afternoon/evening, at which time the internet became painfully slow.

The hotel food was very nice but very expensive, particularly given that we were travelling with children. The isolation of the hotel meant that there was no other place nearby to visit easily. We were lucky to have a hire car which meant that we could drive to Ichinose for dinner, but it would have been very frustrating (& expensive!) had we not been able to do so as (inter-resort buses did not seem very frequent).

The main criticism of Prince Hotel would be the lack of apres ski activites (no café for a snack, no nice communal gathering area, no easy access to internet). For this reason, if I were staying for any length of time at Shiga Kogen without transport, I might consider accommodation in one of the village resorts.

So, in my view, Shiga Kogen was best for the skiing, and Nozawa was best for the all-round experience. Thank you for your assistance in finding suitable accommodation for us.

I have attached a few of photographs of our two are of my son in the powder at Shiga Kogen.

Late January 2017

We had a great trip to Japan, the snow was incredible and we had some lovely sunny skiing days.

In terms of the hotel - the room layout was great for a family, but the hotel itself is very dated and a bit rundown for the price. Though it is convenient to have breakfast and dinner included, you wouldn't want to eat at the Monaile restaurant every night as it was quite limited, so we found we went up to the Kogen Hotel for dinners (which was included in the deal, you could eat at either hotel). The staff were absolutely lovely, and it was a ski in/ ski out location. The shuttle bus was always available which was also convenient.

We will keep in touch as Japan is a great family holiday for us, and we are all likely to want to return!

Mid January 2017

We had another wonderful holiday at Madarao. As usual, the standard of accomodation, level of service and equality of food were excellent value for money.

Each year the resort is starting to provide more services for Western customers. There are now 2 really good coffee spots and more options for english ski lessons.

This year the skiing conditions were perfect . So much powder and the slopes were really quiet. Madarao is a great family resort. There isn’t a huge amount of night life or dining options outside the main hotels but for families who just want convenience and easy access to ski slopes it is perfect.

Susan Reid

Early January 2017

Yes we had a great trip – loved Madarao. The hotel was fine – slightly older hotel etc but we had the benefit of using the facilities up the road at the bigger hotel. The shuttle bus worked well and we were always able to get around (except for one v heavy snow day!).It is a tiny resort and very Japanese.

Have to say we did enjoy it a lot.

Late December 2016

We had a fabulous stay at Madarao. This was my visit ski holiday ever so I was a little nervous about the whole thing.  Your service was fabulous, very professional.  Our booking went very smoothly, no issues at all once we were on the ground.  Everything as planned.

The accommodation was clean, tidy.  Basic but very adequate.  Room was warm which was the main thing!  And there was plenty of hot water so we were always warm! The shuttle bus up to the main resort was very frequent.  It really was no hassle staying down at the annexe hotel.   We used the facilities of the main hotel without any issues.  The Onsen at the main hotel is lovely.  Buffet restaurant also good.  Breakfast at the Annexe very Japanese style which was lovely.

We had a great trip, wonderful experience which went very smoothly. We would definitely use your service again and highly recommend Madarao if you want a very Japanese ski experience.  There were few Western tourists at Madarao which made our experience all the more authentic which we enjoyed immensely.

Thanks and cheers
Sharon

Late March 2016

Thanks so much for all your help. We are still at Madarao enjoying the fabulous Japanese hospitality of all here especially Toru who has looked after us so very well, he is Si,ply delightful and so helpful.

We have been down off the hill on the local bus that is the only one still running to Iiyama. Iiyama itself has so much to see especially the clay doll museum, amazing! The brand new info office at the wonderful new Iiyama station is excellent and you can see all the buses coming in from inside their picture windows and lovely heated waiting area. We also did a trip to the snow monkeys that Toru helped us arrange from the station for 4800 yen plus discount if you use the bar code on the brochure, about $50 each. Before the big dump of snow it looked like the season would end this week but we are now snowed in! Took another trip on local bus to Nozawa Onsen and returned on the Nozawa Liner bus which is still running from the station. Many thanks again, I am more than happy to provide any kind of promotional support I can for this fabulous lesser known resort in the area. Do let me know if I can be of any help. Do you have Toru or Aki's full names and email contacts as I would like to send them personal letters of thanks.

Here are some from Madarao Kogen for you to use in what ever way best suits the support of both resorts - a great place for aussies to visit and ski and sOOOOO easy with the beautiful new Iiyama Shinkansen sation right at the bottom of the hill.

Even though we were at the very end of the season and most buses had stopped running we could still work around the community bus timetable and get down to walk Iiyama City, do the snow monkeys tour including beautiful Shiba Onsen on the way back and went down later in the week again to go over to Nozawa Onsen for a look. Then.....we had a meter of snow dumped on us over two nights and days so of course went out for the next three days to play in the pow! It was just beautiful, Toru was sensational as was Aki and Toru even drove us down the hill on the final sunday morning as our shinkansen connection for Osaka via Kanazawa didn't match with the local bus. He's simply the loveliest guy and so very helpful.

I would do what ever I can to assist you guys support our Buller/Madarao relationship and feel so very privillaged to have been accepted into the program from BSL.

Ski Hire people at Madarao Kogen Hotel couldn't do enough to help us, gear was fine! They had our soft boots ready for us each time we turned up back at ski hire!

I have about 1000 pictures of all over Japan, do let me know if you'd like me to hunt you up some specific areas - like Shinkansen photos etc. Kind

Regards Lea and Rod Gill

Mid January 2016

We stayed Monaile Madarao in Mid January. Two families of 2 adults and 3 children each.

The hotel was very comfortable and perfect for a family.

Great views of the slopes from the rooms and very clean. Fairly basic accommodation but excellent value.

Excellent in Hotel Onsen.

Breakfast was always good and perhaps better than the breakfast on offer at Madarao Kogen Hotel which is the sister Hotel.

The shuttle between the 2 Hotels was terrific. It went whenever you wanted with very little wait.

Being able to ski pretty much from outside the door down to the lifts every day was a huge bonus.

The runs were a good mix of challenging and steep right through to some wide gentle cruisers.

It was nice to see so many Japanese and so few westerners at Madarao.

Lots of snowboarders!

Lifts are pretty slow but quite well connected and as the resort is on the smaller size it is easy to ski it all, but it doesn’t become boring.

There are good eating options on the mountain and a few great little restaurants in the the village.

Be prepared to book for the evening meals as they don’t have much capacity and close early.

You could end up eating 2 minute noodles in the room otherwise!

One tip is to stock up in Iiyama on snacks and things when you get off the Shinkansen and before you get the bus up the mountain.

The supermarket is next to the station. Madarao has very limited convenience store options.

Overall a wonderful resort and despite the unusual season of 2016 we still had enough snow to really enjoy the trip.

Hisae and the team at Japan Snow Accommodation did a great job recommending the Resort.

Thank you

Late February 2015

Sorry for the delay in responding to this I have been extremely busy since returning from Japan.

Our trip was fabulous!! This was our second time to Madarao and it was as good as I remembered! Would be happy for you to share any of the below my feedback on your site!

Our trip to Madarao was absolutely amazing! Monaile Madarao is a great hotel with everything you might need on site - ski lockers, restaurant, small convenience store, wi-fi, laundry and an onsen. You also can't not give a mention to the ability to ski in and out, the free shuttle bus to and from Madarao Kogen, a view you can never get sick of and a wonderful team of staff who go above and beyond to ensure you have a great stay. This was our second trip to Madarao and it didn't disappoint! The snow is perfect and powdery with lots of ungroomed runs and plenty of room on the slopes.

Booking with Japan Snow Accommodation made planning our stay so easy as it meant I had our room, breakfast (the option for dinner) and lift passes all sorted before I left home and combined in one transaction. The quick response times and easy booking process made it hassle free and we had absolutely no issues from start to finish! We'll definitely use them again!

I have also attached a couple of photos you can use if you like?

Thanks for all your help!

Late February 2014. Your help and advice was very helpful! Our trip was amazing!

We were actually caught in the massive storm... Left sleeping on the floor of the tokyo airport and then a 15 hour bullet train ride! But After 70 hours in transit.

We were met by torou at iiamya, amazing man he is!

We had four days of the most amazing powder with no one around to steal our first tracks!

It was all worth it on our first run down powder wave!!

I would return to maderao again for sure! All the staff at monaile and maderao kogen resort were so helpful and the restaurants and people in maderao were also amazing!

I'd like to thank you again Hisae for all your help and advice in making our journey so accommodating and fantastic!!

Can't wait to visit again in the near future!

Mid January 2014 "Madarao was really fun

It is only a short distance from Iiyama (that is soon to get the Hokuriku Shinkansen), making it easy to get to and from by train. It is also close to Nozowa and Togari if you want to change it up and visit another slope for a day trip.

I was lucky because the snow was good when I was there, it snowed every other day - letting me experience the clear skies and views to the Sea of Japan, as well as the fresh powder on the Tree Line runs. With mostly school kids on the slopes during the week, there was plenty of fresh snow on the groomed areas all day too

The hotel rooms were pretty big, all the staff friendly and helpful, and the buffet dinner really good. There were also few restaurants in the resort area too (so you are not stuck at the hotel for food).

Japan Snow Accommodation made it easy to book and I look forward to future snow adventures planned with them

Thanks again"

Late January 2017

We had a great experience thanks and all the accomodation booking etc went perfectly smoothly.

Nozawa View hotel is really good. Couldn't fault it and we loved the traditional rooms. Too many Australians at the resort though and on a fine day there were decent lift queues which was unfortunate but nonetheless a gorgeous village and some great skiing particularly up the top of the mountain where the snow conditions were less susceptible to temperature changes.

Your assistance in this trip was fantastic.

Thanks so much again.

Late Feb 2017

We had a fantastic time.  The hosts at Nakajimaya were really nice, and the breakfast was a great combination of authentic Japanese food with excellent flavor.  We also really like Nozawa: the hot springs are a necessary cultural experience for anyone wanting to understand these rural mountain towns, and the resort has the best off piste skiing that we're done in Japan.

Overall, great.  We'll totally come back in a couple years!

Late Feb 2017

Our trip was great, we enjoyed the resort, easy access, hiring the equipment was effortless, the runs were fabulous. The ryokan was good, very welcoming and so helpful. Apart from the breakfast, everything was enjoyable. I suppose we had such wonderful Japanese breakfast everywhere else, we were expecting better than what was served.

Thank you for your service, it was perfect.

Mid Jan 2016

Your service is excellent. Whithout you, I would have been unable to find an accomodation in this peak period.

The accomodation was great and the owner of the Ryokan very friendly.

We loved the village too, and the dosijin worth to be seen, really impressive and interesting (and you can have some sake shots on the slopes !).

The ski lift were not too crowded, althought it was the aussie's holiday. This is a really good point.

I was disapointed by the snow coverage, a lot of bottom slopes were closed...I'm use to in europ, bad luck in Japan. I'm an expert backcountry skier, Nozawa lacks of steep run, and the space between trees is not sufficient in the forest to ski in (except on the side of Hikage gondola, acess by first station of the other gondola). Some nice runs too from the skyline on both sides. But many trees...

Thanks again Hisae, I will certainly take your advice for my next season in Japan !

Mid Jan 2016

Thank you so much for arranging such beautiful, picturesque, cultural and comfortable accommodation at such a good price (at the last minute) in such a fabulous location! The entire town is perfection; beautiful and ancient and culturally rich and an absolute joy to visit.

The walk to and from our accommodation each day was always a highlight, we absolutely loved the fire festival, and even though the snow was average it was nonetheless one of the best holidays I've ever been on.

The accommodation itself was fantastic, the food was absolutely outstanding, but by far the highlight were the staff. Please send a very special thank you to our hostess (I'm so sorry I've forgotten her name!). Nothing was too much trouble, and all the staff went above and beyond to help us silly Aussies to understand and fully appreciate their town.

We have been raving about the trip for months now, recommend the village, the accommodation and of course your services to anyone who will listen, and are already plotting to go back.

Thank you Hisae for making our trip wonderful!

Kind regards,

Melanie

Early Jan 2016

We had a wonderful trip. Nakajimaya Ryokan was exactly what we wanted. It is a beautifully run, traditional ryokan serving wonderful food. It is clean, comfortable and convenient for skiers moving to and from the peaks of Nozawa Onsen. We hope we can return some time soon.

Best wishes,
Tosca

Late Dec 2015

We loved staying at Nakajimaya Ryokan and experiencing a traditional Japanese Inn. Yukiko, her family and staff were all exceptionally kind and helpful, always giving us good advice and explaining Japanese customs when necessary. Our rooms were both quiet and spacious with plenty of room for the family to relax at the end of the day. It was a real draw card having a private onsen within the ryokan and we made good use of this everyday.

Nozawa is a gorgeous village with many restaurants and bars, we were able to find a different place to eat every night and also enjoyed a superb meal at the Nakajimaya Ryokan as well. We will definitely be going back there.

Late January 2015

We loved our holiday in Japan.

Thanks you for booking us into Nakajimaya Ryokan.

We had an amazing family experience and loved the Ryokan.

The family were fantastic hosts and very helpful.

We would love to stay there again.

Certainly the walk to and from the ski hill through the village streets was enjoyable every day and we liked being a bit out of the busy areas.

I have attached a few photos from our stay to show you!

So thanks so much for looking after us!

Cheers,

Early January 2015

Just wanted to let you know that our Nozawa Onsen trip was a big success and we all had an excellent stay at the Nakajimaya Ryokan.

The hosts at the Ryokan were always friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.

Please pass on our thanks to them.

Getting to the snow via Shinkansen, local train and bus was stress free and like everything else in Japan, was on time and schedule.

And the skiing was superb.

Hopefully we’ll do it again next year.

Thanks

Attached are the happy customers.

Mid January 2014

We had a wonderful time at Nozawa Onsen thankyou

Your service was wonderful , esp finding something so perfect for us at relatively late notice., at a busy time of year.

We really loved Nakajimaya Ryokan

Loved the traditional nature of it and being exposed to other Japanese travellers and staff as well , rather than the 1st lodge we stayed at for the first 3 days which was great but not especially Japanese.

The lady in charge was absolutely beautiful to us and so kind and helpful- she was gorgeous.

The food was amazing and we loved the exposure to the traditional dishes and table arrangements .

It was nice also to experience the in house onsen without having to go out in the cold to get there.

The masseuse across the road was very good after a day of skiing and really enjoyed being able to walk easily to everything in the village esp for the fire festival.

Even able to come back to the rooms for a while to watch where the festival was up to , then go out again later on . Rooms very cosy and comfortable.

Was not too far a walk to the travellator either to get to the ski fields.

The woman in charge of the hotel was very good with making bookings etc for us-very reliable and great service.

Absolutely loved the village and the skiing.People friendly .

Snow wonderful. Very pretty and long green runs , so enjoyable with children – they loved it .

Beautiful and interesting village and so glad we saw the fire festival . Nice to have more a traditional glimpse of everything.

Only thing to mention to people is book your restaurant meals ahead as it is a small village and venues get booked out ahead .

Thanks for your help

Would love to go back

Late January 2014

My wife and I stayed at Nakajimaya Ryokan, Nozawa Onsen in February 2014.

The rooms are large and comfortable, staff are helpful, smiling and courteous always, and the food is amazing.

Many other great restaurants are nearby, as well as numerous free public onsens, 1 of which is right outside the front door.

When we return to Nozawa, we will be staying at Nakajimaya Ryokan."

Mid January 2013

This is an excellent traditional ryokan.

The family that run it are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable and well decorated and the food is of a very high quality. I recommend having breakfast here and the dinner is also excellent. we spent a week here before heading off to hokkaido and it was one of the highlights of our trip."
