"The owners were very friendly people.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Elm Pension and plan to return during March to try snow shoeing as recommended by Toshi-san.

The meals were big, filling and delicious.

The room was perfectly heated and the beds comfortable.

Overall a great experience.

Thank-you very much."

"Owner speaks great English and both he and his wife are very friendly and accommodating!

The room had a great alpine view and was spaciaous enough for our gear.

Well heated too.

No seats in the room though, so you will prob just sleep there.

Downstairs has a big tv and dining table to chill out.

They served up a great French Dinner and breakfast as well."

Address Nozawa

Early March 2016

Nozawa Onsen was the second resort we visited with very nice accommodation at Address Nozawa.
Comfortable large rooms with a kitchen area and very friendly helpful staff.

The village was delightful with many places to eat and the feeling of a genuine Japanese village community with a large number of free public Onsen - beware the of the very hot central Onsen - it was too much for us!

Early February 2015

We had a fantastic 5 night stay at Address Nozawa.

The rooms are self contained with all the wonderful additions that make it like home: Nescafé coffee machine and Apple TV. We stayed in the purple room (standard) which had two amazingly comfortable beds with cozy warm donnas and comfortable pillows. Heaven.

The hotel is located in the central part of town near souvenir shops and steamed bun vendors (a daily ritual for us!). It is an easy walk from the Chuo terminal and not too far to the post office ATM. The front desk staff were warm and happy and English was well spoken - we had great help with restaurant bookings and recommendations! Thank you!

Other reviewers have mentioned breakfast as being the low-light; we were supplied with adequate eggs, toast, orange juice, ham and sausages and really it was no problem.

Of course you're coming to Nozawa for a bit more culture and if you don't want that like home feeling then I would suggest to try their sister ryokan Kawamotoya. We will definitely be staying at Address Nozawa on our next trip! Regards Alicia

Dear Leacey, Thank you very much to take your time to give us such a wonderful comment, I am glad to read that our little hotel is matched with your needs and you have enjoyed staying with us. The number of rooms are limited in our hotel, so that we can quite stay closer with our guests, especially with long stay guests during the winter, we also enjoy to get in touch with guests. Thank you again to choose our hotel. We are looking forward to welcoming you for next ski trip to Nozawa.

Warm Regards,
Hisako Horikawa general manager

Mid Deecember 2015

Although X’mas 2015 was not an ideal time for skiing at Nozawa, our chosen accommodation of “Address Nozawa” had made our trip much more memorable.

The room is sizable which perfectly suited my family group with two boys.

The private onsen at the basement, though small, had given my family a lot of privacy.

The orange juice, milk, bread, ham and eggs provided for breakfast were plentiful and more than enough. The only setback I could remember is the slow drying machine at basement which made my laundry time a bit too long.

January 2014 "Nozawa has a fabulous village atmosphere with loads of restaurants, shops and onsens and has lots of charm

There are a lot more western skiers which makes it a bit more crowded & touristy but perhaps that is the price you pay if you want the apres ski activities.

Our accommodation at Address Nozawa was great- comfortable, stylish and well equipped. The apartment-style of the rooms, though not particularly big, were much easier for us, especially with children.

The breakfast provisions provided by the hotel were great too.

The staff were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay here.

The downside was that we had a bit of a walk to get to the slopes, but this was not a big problem as we left our equipment in lockers near the gondola. The skiing was fun though for a stronger skier it could be less rewarding if the snow on the lower slopes was not really good, as this was where a number of the advanced runs finished. When we were there, the weather had been quite warm and the snow quality was best at the top of the mountain, where the green and red runs were.

So, in my view, Shiga Kogen was best for the skiing, and Nozawa was best for the all-round experience. Thank you for your assistance in finding suitable accommodation for us. I have attached a few of photographs of my my sons at Nozawa (one on the slopes and the other outside our accommodation).

"we stayed at address nozawa last week of dec and we enjoyed our stay very much.

it is located in a side street just off the main road and close to all the food in the centre of town. it is a 5min walk to the moving walkway and it's a good idea to rent the skis from the base of the slopes so you don't have to carry the skis and walk with the boots all the way up hill(you can leave it there overnight as well). we were 2 pax and the rooms are very decent size for japan. there is a small living room area with a kitchenette and the bathroom is sufficient and it's always better to have an attached rather than to have to share.

the fridge is stocked every 2-3 days with a breakfast pack with includes eggs, milk, juice, bread, ham, sausages... i'm not big on cooking on my holiday but i think it'll be good for families."

"We recently stayed at Address Nozawa in the Red Room.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. the room was great and we had fresh bread, eggs and juice for breakfast provided by the hotel every morning.

There was free wi-fi and a games room. T

he location of Address Nozawa was great close to all the restaurants not far to the ski lift (its a hard up hill slog in the morning but of an afternoon it is all down hill).

I would highly recommend staying here."

Late Feb 2017

Kogakuro Hotel at Akakura Onsen was good. It is in need of some reburbishment but completely comfortable and clean with a lovely host, Meiko. Good breakfast available, we had a Japanese room which could sleep 3 people, and they have an inside/outside onsen which is clean. The outside bath is covered preventing the fresh snow flakes falling into the bath while bathing, which I like! They gave a nice bar with a real fireplace which is not often found in Japan ski hotels, good for apres ski drinks.

Hisae and her team did a great job to organise our ski trip to Myoko Kogen

Chalet Shiga guest review

Late Feb 2017

The Chalet Shiga was very good value for money however we unfortunately got very sick with influenza on arriving at Shiga Kogen – probably from the flight over as they say it takes about a week to affect you and we had a week at Hakuba before heading to Shiga.  I skied for only 2 hours out of a planned 4 days skiing.  The rest of the family were not quite as sick and got a day or two in skiing.

The rooms were good (I know as I spent most of my time in it) and the onsen was great.  Service at the hotel was also great as was the Tapas Bar downstairs.  Ski storage room was great for storage and plenty of seating to get yourself organised. The ski hire shop across the road was a bit dodgy in the quality of equipment they were giving out (this was a general feeling from our whole group) – not sure where else we could have gone but next time I would source elsewhere.

Would recommend and stay there again

Greg LEE

Early Feb 2017

Chalet Shiga was exactly what we had hoped for and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will most likely return next year.We enjoyed good clean rooms and amenities and a  good breakfast. We loved having an Onsen each day after a hard day’s skiing. The staff were helpful and friendly and a number spoke good English. We found the heated ski locker room a bonus. The hotel is opposite a ski lift which made access easy  and we could ski back to the front door each day. Discount lift tickets were available at the reception desk. Our only minor problem was finding a restaurant in town for our evening meal as several were closed, particularly on weekends. The restaurants that were open were generally booked out. We experienced this last year as well and were told that it was because there were several school groups visiting. I can’t understand why it is necessary to close restaurants and miss out on the trade. It actually became a bit of a joke with other guests and a race to find a meal.

Regards,
Peter, Barbara and Michael.

Early January 2017

Great time in Japan.

Snow was light on in Appi and Zao which was a shame but it bucketed in Shiga.Loved Chalet Shiga.

The owners are fantastic.Rooms are spotless, big, spacious, front rooms have amazing views of the slopes and in a great spot. Good little izakaya 20m away and in the chalet they have a fantastic simple restaurant which was amazing -local beers, wine and good home cooked food. Breakfast really good. Straight across the road to a ski lifGreat variety of slopes  -had a terrific 4 days. Highly recommend Chalet Shiga to everyone -families, couples.

Heaps of snow.

 Mid Jan 2016

We travelled as a family of 7 to Japan and stayed at Chalet Shiga for 4 nights in January. We had the most memorable time here. The accommodation was great. We had 3 of the tatami mat rooms and as requested had 3 fantastic rooms next to each other. They were very clean and comfortable, and we all loved the robes and slippers provided.

Mr Sato was so helpful and was always eager to explain buses and help with timetables, especially when we were trying to make the trip to the snow monkey park. All the staff were lovely, polite and helpful.

The Chalet is in the best location and we just walked across the road to a couple of chair lifts. The skiing was also fantastic and once again all the staff were so friendly and polite.

We definitely plan to return as soon as we can make it. The whole experience in the snow was made so enjoyable by the great service provided by Japan Snow accommodation especially Hisae, and by all the people at Chalet Shiga.

Late January 2015

The Shiga leg of the trip was excellent. Lots of snow, Hide and his wife were superb hosts, the accommodation on the snow worked really well. I cannot comment on how good the snow was, how short the lift queues were and how easy it was to get around (with our limited Japanese). We loved the Chalet Shiga and the owners (Hide and Hideyo (?) were beautiful people. If you had an email for them please send to me so I can thank them properly. I did not realise how much his family is a part of the local history.

We also caught a bus on several days to travel to nearby ski fields– many you can easily ski to and from! The view from the Bakery on a clear day was impossible to describe! Highly recommended.

Some travellers may be potentially unsure of the lack of western “things” but they should not be worried, the experience is a pleasure and everyone local is so friendly that language barriers and new foods are simply part of the fun!

I attach a number of photos for you to use as you wish.

The small trouble we had was the small number of restaurants to eat at but we managed to find enough to keep us full and happy for a week!

Thank again for your help in finding great accom, brilliant snow and a wonderful Japanese holiday. We have been to ski in Japan 5 times and each time is an incredible holiday and cultural experience.

Many thanks again

The Bradbury family (Sydney Australia).

She was able to answer all our questions about travel, transfers,

"The trip was a blast! I have no complaints at all about the stay.

It was well-kept and the rooms were very large, plus it had a bar downstairs which was quite nice.

One suggestion I do have is to try and find a more detailed map of the some of the bars, restaurants and shops within maybe a 20 minute walking distance. We ended up doing our own exploring, but it would have been nice to have more of an idea of what is around us since we are more or less limited to what's available up in the mountain.

Thank you for your great service and a wonderful holiday!

"First, the staff at Chalet Shiga was extremely friendly and helpful" - Ming

They had our dinner ready, even though we arrived late and past their dining hours. They walked to the lifts with us to make sure our lift passes worked properly.

Second, we enjoyed the spaciousness of the tatami rooms.

Third, the location was great, right across from the lifts.

Needs improvement: The breakfast...while they offered both the traditional Japanese-style and the Western-style breakfast, the overall options left us pining for properly cooked eggs and good-for-you items (fresh fruit, whole wheat bread, muesli, yoghurt...).

Honourable mention to Hisae Cameron for being super helpful and patient with us!"

By Ming

"WE were very happy with the our stay at the Chalet Shiga" - Bernie

The tatami rooms are very spacious, warm and housekeeping was great.

The food was nice and always ready. Eggs where cold in the morning, as everything was also ready when we came.

Staff where all very nice and helpful, and if we would have worried enough about it and said something, I'm sure they would have cooked them, when we arrived for breakfast.

The internet was fast and sometimes worked in the room also.

The location is perfect, you can ski in and out.

We would stay there again anytime. Thank you"

Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba guest reviews

Early January 2017

Our group of 3 had a great time at Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba. Upon arrival, we initially had some confusion with ski passes between Hakuba Cortina/Hakuba Valley, but thankfully the communication between the staff at the hotel & Hisae enabled us to have this all fixed up within 24 hours & did not result in us having to change any of our plans. Throughout our stay we had daily issues with the Wifi, only able to connect after 9pm at night.

Hakuba Cortina itself is a smaller resort compared to others in the Hakuba Valley. There was a range of runs, particularly more beginner/intermediate with a few advanced runs. Being early in the season majority of the more advanced runs were still closed due to poor coverage. There were very small lift queues which enabled us to maximise our skiing time. The runs we were able to ski we very enjoyable! We finished our days in the onsens, which were very relaxing.

Within Hotel Green Plaza we thoroughly enjoyed our included buffet breakfast. This included both asian & western cuisines. For other meals throughout the day, there were limited options. Lunch options included 1 busy cafe/restaurant & another buffet. Dinners again had the choice of cafe/restaurant which had 3 pasta dishes, pizzas & a curry to choose from or another buffet which was JPY 3780 per person. This resort could be improved by having a bar/pub style area or having the cafe/restaurant area open later than 7:30pm.

Our transfers between Nagano station & the resort, were great. Very efficient & run perfectly on time.

We also did the snow monkey tour as a rest day. I would highly recommend this day trip & it was one of the highlights of our trip. The 2km walk up to where the snow monkeys are is quite magical! This day also included a traditional Japanese lunch & the afternoon spent at a temple in Nagano.

Overall we enjoyed our stay in Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba, but would recommend this hotel to families, rather than couples.”

I hope this helps Hisae! Thank you again for all of your organisation, we really appreciate it.

Arigato!

Mid January 2017

Fantastic trip with every detail covered. Good prices and ski in/ out accommodation locations. Abundance of powder snow. Japan Snow Accommodation had so much local knowledge of the area and were able to direct us to our destination. The language barrier was much higher than we anticipated and it was a relief to have all the information for our transfers at hand provided by JSA prior to leaving. They the trip was mapped out and we could follow instructions to exactly where we were going. Well worth it for the snow and the cultural experience. Trip of a life time with two weeks of incredible snow riding.

Mid Feb 2016

My partner and I are both extremely satisfied with your services and appreciate all of your help regarding our holiday to Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba. It was definitely a highlight of our stay in Japan. We are grateful that you arranged the upgrade to the kaiseki for no additional cost and sent plenty of information regarding access to the hotel. It was really easy coming from Tokyo and then departing to Shibu Onsen. (However, one of the bus timetables has changed and now has additional services - I'll send you the timetable when I find the brochure again!) We are really impressed with your service and the inclusions of your offer!

The moment when you come up over the hill and see the hotel for the first time is very striking. It is huge! My partner and I stayed in the roomy standard room of Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba. It was great having a spacious room after our stay in a small city room. Some of the decor and the bathroom were a little dated but the wonderful view facing the mountains made up for it.

I would recommend other visitors to bring food for lunch and snacks during their stay but if not there is some restaurants open for lunch, which can be a little pricey, and snack food downstairs. The Wifi can be a little spotty but did the job. The best part of the hotel was the food, a two-day-rotational buffet with something for everyone and, of course, the skiing. The kaiseki was brilliant and I would recommend it to other travelers also.

We would describe our skiing and snowboarding as intermediate and there was plenty of runs to choose from. The best part is there is little-to-no wait for a lift. Pretty much just hop on! Unfortunately for the first half of the trip there was little snow fall which led to some runs having holes or exposed plants but during the last half of our trip, there was so much powder and snow fall. The employees are very helpful and polite and many know English.

Thank you for a great trip and for all of your help along the way. I don't mind if you use this response or photos.

Alice

Mid February 2015

My group of 5 have been to many resorts in USA, Japan, and Europe before and all have varying ability levels of skiing/riding. We were pleased to find that Cortina caters for all levels with short steep tree runs for the advances and wide open groomers for intermediate. Our week was blessed with 2 feet of snow over the first 2 days and followed up by some blue bird days which made for some great conditions all literally from our front door.

The Green plaza Hotel is truly gorgeous, it looks like it belongs in the Swiss Alps rather than a small resort in Japan. We found the rooms quite large and spacious which is a rarity in Japan as well, more than enough rooms for our group après after a day on the slopes. Buffet style Bfast an dinner was included in our package and was a treat as well with plenty of western and Japanese dishes to choose from, the all you can drink card was quite fun too.

The hotel also has a large onsen with many pools of varying depths and temperatures, one which even overlooks the slopes. A great way to sooth the sore legs that's for sure.

All in all it was a great trip and we will be going back for sure, I cant thank Hisae enough for all her work to make it such and enjoyable trip and attending to our requests.

Dain, Kim, Joel, Johnno, and Big G

Late February 2014

We had a great long weekend at Cortina and the hotel was great. Room suited us perfectly with 3 young kids (3 under 3.5), Buffett restaurant was great and ski runs and kids play park all fantastic. In the end 2 other families joined us and we were all able to ski and play together. My 3 yr old tried skis for the first time which was very exciting to see.

Thumbs up from my son (pictured below)

It snowed the day we left but was blue skies all weekend."

February 2014

Cortina was superb and we were absolutely overwhelmed by the sheer size of the hotel and once again the staff were fantastic.

Thank you for everything you did for us. We had the most amazing time and everything went like clockwork. Your communication with us was prompt, the booking and organisation was efficient and extremely easy. They even organised transport for us back to Hakuba (Wadano) at the end of our stay.

We were once again extremely lucky with the snow and had great powder skiing.

The food was also amazing with a huge , delicious variety of food.

The mountain, although not huge, had fantastic tree runs and although we didn't go back country there was plenty of opportunity for those with the right equipment.

A free shuttle bus allowed us to go to other resorts in the Hakuba Valley, especially to visit the little villages after skiing.

The rooms were a combination of Western and Japanese and once again we were surprised by the size of the rooms. You could easily accommodate children in your room if they slept on futons

We are very interested in returning to Cortin and would appreciate any packages you have for the 2014/2015 season.

Once again thank you for all your help.

I have attached some pics from our trio below.....

Kindest regards,

Sharon and Trevor Monk

Late January 2017

We had a great experience thanks and all the accomodation booking etc went perfectly smoothly.

Nozawa View hotel is really good. Couldn't fault it and we loved the traditional rooms. Too many Australians at the resort though and on a fine day there were decent lift queues which was unfortunate but nonetheless a gorgeous village and some great skiing particularly up the top of the mountain where the snow conditions were less susceptible to temperature changes.

Your assistance in this trip was fantastic.

Thanks so much again.
