Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel

Mid February 2014

Shiga was wonderful. We had forgotten just how good it is. Plenty of variety, good facilities and great snow.

Prince west was very good.  It’s location is excellent.  Long, enjoyable runs right on our doorstep.  We like to get out early and enjoy the snow while it is still in pristine condition.  Prince was perfect for this.

We couldn’t fault the rooms, staff were friendly and helpful.  The bed and breakfast rate was excellent value.   View from our twin room was wonderful (attached photo).  We particularly enjoyed the breakfast arrangement.  Everything from traditional Japanese to cooked western to fruit and yoghurt.

Only negative comment was the dinner arrangement.  Dinner in the hotel was expensive (4,000 yen pp fixed price), and didn’t look that inviting.  We had dinner next door at the Chinese restaurant or walked into Ichinose.  The walk only took about 10 minutes and was actually quite enjoyable.

We certainly plan to return, and will probably stay at Prince West again.  I will be in touch later in the year to get things organised.    I have already recommended the hotel to a couple of people.

Thank you for all your help and advice with the holiday, we are already looking forward to next year’s trip.

January 2014

We had a another terrific holiday skiing in Japan- we all enjoyed it very much.

Shiga Kogen and Nozawa are, as you will be aware, very different and so there were mixed opinions within the family as to which place was best.

Some of us enjoyed Shiga Kogen best as the quality of the snow was great (we had some lovely powder snow while we were there) and there was good access to a large range of different ski areas.

The rooms at the Prince Hotel (East) were comfortable and had a wonderful view onto the slopes and the hotel is absolutely ski in- ski out. The reception staff spoke reasonable english and were very helpful. The lack of internet in the rooms meant that all the guests congregated in the lobby, which was not particularly comfortable or atmospheric, to get wifi access in the late afternoon/evening, at which time the internet became painfully slow.

The hotel food was very nice but very expensive, particularly given that we were travelling with children. The isolation of the hotel meant that there was no other place nearby to visit easily. We were lucky to have a hire car which meant that we could drive to Ichinose for dinner, but it would have been very frustrating (& expensive!) had we not been able to do so as (inter-resort buses did not seem very frequent).

The main criticism of Prince Hotel would be the lack of apres ski activites (no café for a snack, no nice communal gathering area, no easy access to internet). For this reason, if I were staying for any length of time at Shiga Kogen without transport, I might consider accommodation in one of the village resorts.

So, in my view, Shiga Kogen was best for the skiing, and Nozawa was best for the all-round experience. Thank you for your assistance in finding suitable accommodation for us.

I have attached a few of photographs of our two are of my son in the powder at Shiga Kogen.

Late Feb 2017

What a great trip. Fantastic snow. All 3 places we stayed at are amazing. Your organizational skills are to be applauded. Hotel Moc at Kanko is perfectly located to Gondola (refer attached photo) and we did not mind the walk up into town. Suginohara is an amazing place to ski. Chuo Taxis are the way to go – amazing service – on time – every time.

Cannot wait to book again for next year. Keep up the great work.

North Point Pension

Late January 2014 I had a wonderful trip.

"The serviced received from yourselves was very helpful and accommodating. You found me a very suitable room at my preferred budget during the peak time of the season.

The chalet itself was nicely furnished and the room was a generous size.

The hosts were very friendly and added to the ambience of the accommodation.

Mid February 2014.

Thank you for recommending North Point Pension for my recent trip to Niseko Hirafu.

Tim and Nic made my holiday! North Point is kept immaculate, and has all the facilities required for a comfortably stay and a great skiing experience.

The shuttle bus was frequent and not far from the chalet, I even walked home from the slopes on several occasions.

Overall I had a wonderful experience and can’t wait to go back next year!

Thanks

"North Point is kept immaculate, and has all the facilities required for a comfortably stay and a great skiing experience.

Day starts with a fabulous breakfast, then its mountain time with the fist run my Tim or Nic in the lodge van to the lifts. Generally there will be a second run around 9am for those in not such a hurry, which is kind of good , as there are no lift ques at this time.

Enjoyed the mountain, snow was great , and a nice change from skiing in Australia. I would go back again, in fact my mate I travelled with is already planning a group to return to North Point next year.

Once again thank you, and a huge thank-you to Nic and Tim at North Point Pension for their superb hospitality, and a lodge run to the highest standards."

"On my third trip to Niseko, we stayed at North Point Pension. We absolutely loved it!

Our hosts were incredibly helpful and accommodating, even making our "made to order" breakfast each morning with eggs and bacon. They helped us with rentals, transportation, and recommendations for everything from restaurants to onsens. Thank you Nikki and Tim!

The pension had well spaced rooms that were very clean with heated floors (a must in the winter!). There were plenty of sinks and bathrooms for guests to use and an enormous showering area. They also had two living room areas to lounge or watch television and movies. Tons of bars and restaurants were within walking distance and the bus was less than five minutes away.

I would definitely stay at North Point Pension next time and recommend it to anyone going to Niseko."

Mid January 2014

"We had the most amazing time! We got North Point Pension so last minute and I don't think we could have found better accommodation. We were so happy with the lodging, and especially with the managers Tim and Nic.

The mountain was fantastic. We were lucky enough to get hooked up with some locals who showed us all the secret spots and it made the trip so special. We took a couple day trips to Kiroro and Rusutsu. I would highly recommend that others take some day trips to other resorts. It is very cool to experience some of the smaller resorts that are less catered to westerners.

We were incredibly happy with Niseko, such delightful food available everywhere and such welcoming people. I will definitely be back and am considering making it my home for a season or more! Thank you for helping us find lodging last minute. You were wonderfully helpful and we will definitely use you again!"

Early January 2014

We had an excellent trip, everything went buttery smooth all the way.

The mountain and it's conditions is as everyone knows world class, at least in the powder department. Prices are reasonable, and also worth mentioning is the food, in most places the food is diverse, made to go fresh and tasty. Our accommodation, I can't speak highly enough about it. Fairly central location, clean, nice rooms, brilliant breakfast and some really knowledgeable, helpful and sweet hosts.

All info I received from you guys were accurate and helpful and made our trip a breeze.

From Pal

January 2014

"North Point is by far the most relaxed and comfortable place I've stayed at in Hirafu

The pension itself has all the features needed post powder day such as a sitting room and separate TV room. The rooms are clean and larger than typical Japanese pensions.

The breakfast supplied keeps you going all day and there are snacks supplied at the end of the day. There is a drying room running continously so your ski kit will be toasty warm each morning.

North Point is close to all ammenities such as the lifts, shops and restaurants even though it's located in the lower part of the village. It's no more than a 10 min walk to the closest lift. The best onsen in town is a 3 min walk away.

Tim & Nic run the loadge and are always on hand to look after all the guests needs such as supplying a washing machine and dryer free of charge. They pick you up from the bus stop when you arrive and run you to the lifts each morning. If they can help, they will.

I've had a fantastic 10 night stay here and will gladly come back. Some rooms have a kind of mezzanine annex so could be good if you had a third person with you"

Peter

February 2013

"North Point was a great place to stay tucked in a nice quiet part of town.

Nic and Tim were very accommodating. They picked me when I arrived and drove me to the lifts that following morning. Room were awesome and spacious. Thanks.

Lodge Scole

Early February 2016

We had a fantastic time skiing and boarding at Zao Onsen in February this year. We had a mix of weather conditions to contend with. One truly bluebird day was ideal for heading to the top of the mountain. The snow monsters were fantastic to see and it was hard to take a bad photo! I've sent you one taken from the Gondola. There was plenty of terrain to keep us skiing from first tracks to the end of the day. Lunches were spent, usually, in the village, exploring the local family run ramen houses.

The snow quality was very good, not as deep as previous visits to Japan, but every day there was a dump and often it snowed through the day which meant fresh tracks could be found all day. The middle of the day was certainly the busiest time for tourists to catch the gondolas to the top of the mountain, to view the snow monsters. The queues are quire long at this time, but it's possible to bypass the crowds and catch 2-3 chairlifts to get access the main ski areas. It took us a good day and a bit to get our bearings around the mountain. Particularly as the visibility was poor so it was tricky navigating turn offs along runs and not ending up somewhere unexpected!! Zao Onsen offered us plenty of piste opportunities and some off piste moments which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Your recommendation of Lodge Scole for our accommodation, was a great one! The lodge is family run. The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly and Mao ensured our stay was very comfortable. The location of the lodge is fairly good. It's about a 10 minute walk in the morning to the first gondola. I imagine if there is a really big dump then you could ski the whole way back to the lodge!

Our room was spacious and comfortable. We had a great view of the mountain and have sent you a photo of it. The food was plentiful and delicious. The lodge has it's own male and female onsens. They're small and both my partner and myself had them to ourselves each evening when we used them. They were super clean and relaxing. The free wifi in our room was a bonus.

Thank you very much Hisae for your outstanding customer service. I happily recommend Japan Snow Accommodation to our friends who ask about our trips and will continue to do so.

Many thanks and I'm sure you'll hear from us for our trip planning for next year.

Kind regards,

Xanthe and Johnny

Late January 2015

Hisae was very easy to communicate with, very organised and kept me up to date. The whole booking process flowed very smoothly and I was really happy with the service. I would definitely use Japan Snow Accomodation again.

Family run Lodge Scole is like your home away from home. The rooms are very cosy and look out onto the mountain.I had the dinner and breakfast deal, the meals were wonderful.Mrs Ojima took great pride in her cooking and explaining what was in her delicious meals, dinner was usually at least 3 courses, if not 4. I had some beautiful meals during my stay. The lodge is about a five minute walk from the bus station.I enjoyed very much staying with Ojima family and the very accomodating staff who work there.

The lodge is located close to the Unwanodai slope. The village of Zao Onsen sprawls along the base of the ski resort. There are some wonderful outdoor hot springs .

Mid February 2017

We enjoyed our time there.  Very friendly hosts and authentic Japanese experience.  Possibly a little too far out of town though. We did a mixture of alpine touring and downhill skiing.  Unfortunately we didn’t have great snow for the first part of our trip but we all thought it would be great to ski with fresh powder.  We came back to Furano for a day of slack country skiing and it was very nice.

I found your service to be excellent. Very helpful and prompt.

Resort
1. Great resort for beginners. The green hill is wide and long, allowing for beginners to space out on the slope so it's less likely that they'll bump into each other. There are several ski schools that operate on the hill and youre bound to be able to get a lesson if youre willing to share a session with strangers.
2. There is a counter where english speaking guests can raise their questions and the rest of the field is easy enough to navigate without much being lost in translation.
3. The eatery on location is good but is also quite limited, guests are encouraged to look into the multiple pensions/restaurants around the slopes for meals if they require variety.

Accommodation.
1. Great value for its price.
2. The meals prepared were varied and tasted very good! Definitely one thing we missed.
3. Quite far from town center. For those who want to eat out after skiing, it's recommended that you get a car or hire a cab to send you back to the pension. The host provides pick up and drop off in the mornings (8-9 am) and early evenings (5-7pm) and we found that it fit our schedules perfectly.4. Given the price and the transport option, it's no surprise that this pension sees a lot of customers. Book early!

Service
1. You guys are amazing as always Hisae.Definitely looking forward to use your service again.

Thank you.

Regards,
Arif

Late Feb 2016

We were made to feel very welcome by Joe and his family as Akaneyado and felt like we were staying in their house which was very cosy and tidy.

The breakfast and occasional evening meal that we had were healthy, fresh and traditional Japanese style.

Joe even cleared snow off our car for us and also provided a lot of useful information about the local area and the skiing.

The accommodation is in a nice rural location about 20 minutes from Furano and an hour from Tokachi-dake.

Thanks to Joe and his family - we will be back!

Our ryokan was excellent, the staff were very helpful.

The onsen was great too, and the local town public onsen were worth visiting also.

I would recommend Zao onsen to anyone who would like to experience a more traditional Japanese mountain experience and who like a more peaceful town than the busier places like Hakuba. I will go back in the future.

As always your service was great too.

All the best,

Late January 2017

We had a great experience thanks and all the accomodation booking etc went perfectly smoothly.

Nozawa View hotel is really good. Couldn't fault it and we loved the traditional rooms. Too many Australians at the resort though and on a fine day there were decent lift queues which was unfortunate but nonetheless a gorgeous village and some great skiing particularly up the top of the mountain where the snow conditions were less susceptible to temperature changes.

Your assistance in this trip was fantastic.

Thanks so much again.

Early Feb 2017

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for organising our Japan accommodation.

Your recommendations were fantastic and we loved every place we stayed, particularly enjoying the ryokan experiences at Hakkoda and Geto Kogen. I also want to say thanks for answering any questions we had via email.

Late December 2016

Sukayu Onsen was great and nice with friendly staff, of course not speaking Japanese (for us) or no English for the staff,  is really a limitation but we found in the hotel Japanese guest , english speakers who helped us when needed.

The weather was at that time quite ok, lots of snow fall ;-) ….The team for backcountry skiing from the hotel were super helpful AND extremely professional -All of them! Really adorable! They deserve to have foreign people coming …when I am seeing so many limitation on internet just around the langage barrier…I can tell you they speak enough English to bring you on tour! Our private guide named Satoshi was english speaker and we have had a super nice day of discovering and skiing with our son of 9 years old. Satoshi has been very patient, very kind and he really has customised our day in order to make it safe, agreeable and super fun.

Scenery in HAKKODA are just amazing!! Of course if the weather turns bad, there not a lot to do, however staying at Sukayou is a real plus….you can enjoy the onsen after a full day of ski or even without going to ski.Not sure staying there a full week could please anyone, specially in case of bad weather, the public snow resort is super minimal (just 2 slopes) and if you are in Hakkoda for the first time not recommended at all to go alone on back country-really to risky-Nevertheless, back to Paris now,  we are super Nostalgic, and I am sure we will come back to Hakkoda.

Our stay was a magic stay!!! really!!Thanks for everything and your great support!

Sincerely,
LEILA

Hakkoda trip and accommodation, snow etc was fantastic last February. Hakkoda is a little gem and what a beautiful park. The accommodation was really good. Like an old fashioned ‘hunting lodge’ with a very traditional feelin

Late Feb 2016

Sukayu Onsen Ryokan is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for traditional accommodation at a reasonable price.

The highlight of the hotel is the large onsen on the ground floor which is a great place to warm up and soothe aching muscles after a day on the slopes. The onsen is mixed but it’s very steamy so don’t let that put you off!

Rooms are tatami rooms with futon beds and are very clean and comfortable.

Meals are a highlight of the stay, with an excellent buffet breakfast and a ‘semi-buffet’ dinner, ie. several small dishes are served at the table, then you can help yourself to the main dish, rice, miso soup, salad and dessert. The breakfast comprises mainly Japanese dishes, but you can also have cereal, fruit and yogurt and toast if you wish. Excellent coffee is also available.

The hotel runs a free shuttle bus each morning to the Ropeway (cable car), returning in the afternoon. There is also one free bus a day to Aomori station. If you miss this, there are three scheduled buses per day, or you can take a taxi.

The skiing can be summed up in one word - powder! Although there are groomed pistes, the reason to come to Hakkoda is to find fresh tracks down the mountain, particularly through the trees. You could happily days here just skiing runs accessed by the lift, though for the more adventurous, hiking snow-shoes or skins will open up more opportunities.

Hakkoda is easy to get to from Tokyo and well worth a try if you’re looking for something different.

Late January 2015

The trip was very good, thank you! I appreciate all the organization and time you spent answering emails prior to the trip. The staff at the onsen spoke sufficient English to get by. It would be better if you had told me there is an option for room only, not including meals, as it is a bit expensive, and the food is only so-so. The mountain was amazing. We snowboarded in both whiteout blizzard and blue skies conditions. The snow was fantastic, and the guides are very organized. The other Japanese guests are very friendly as well. They knew it was my first time in back country and helped me a lot. One of the best trips I've had, thanks a lot!

Early Febuary 2015

This was my third ski trip to Japan. I have now had 3 months in total over 3 seasons. I have skied many resorts all over Hokkaido. This most recent trip was my first time skiing Honshu and took us to Nozwa onsen, Madaro and Myoko before our stay at Hakkoda. Over the past 30 years I have skied USA, Canada , France, Austria and of course NZ. I have had thousands of days on skis but never anything quite like our 3 days in Hakkoda. It will always stand out as a special time for my family and I.

As we came prepared for backcountry skiing we loved the Hakkoda experience and fortunately we had the visibility to explore the endless terrain safely.

The snow monster trees were spectacular.

I certainly would not recommend to anyone but the most experienced or super adventurous.

Without good weather you would require a guide for certain.

The Sukayu Onsen was my favorite of the many onsen visited over the years. We enjoyed the authentic traditional feel and Japanese food.

The free shuttle to the lift was much appreciated.

Overall it was a brilliant few days and we feel lucky to have discovered the Sukayu Onsen before the inevitable crowds of foreigners.

Late January 2015

It's my last night here at Sakuya Onsen. It has been a wonderful experience staying here, perhaps one of my best ever in Japan, and the sking was great too.

I just want to thank you for all your help, the accommodation you found me was top shelf. If you need some more detailed feedback, or any kind of endorsement please just ask.

I am sure this trip will not be my last so I look forward to planning the next one!

Sincere thanks - Ian

Mid January 2015

The trip went well, it was great. Great skiing and a very nice cultural experience. I am glad we went to the Sukayu Onsen, because of the traditional japanese type of accomodation it provided. The mountain was good, lots of snow :) We skied 2 days around the lift, when it was dumping, and the rest of the time we did tours of most of the peaks there. It was a really great trip, thank you very much for the help on the booking.

Mid Feb 2014.

We had a fantastic time, and really achieved harmony at the Sukayo Onsen

We would ski all day and then relax in the hot springs and eat great dinners together.

The snow just kept coming, and we had 5-15 inches of fresh snow every morning.

We slept really well on the Tatami mats, and enjoyed great Japanese food.

This felt like a very genuine Japan experience.

I would recommend Sukayo Onsen and Amori skiing to all passionate skiers or people who are just looking for a reset.

Please check out my snaps below

Early February 2014

"We had an excellent time at Hakkoda while staying at Sukayu Onsen.

The sheer uniqueness of Hakkoda makes it a must visit while in Japan. It was nice to get away from some of the more tourist hot spots and visit somewhere which had a more traditional feel.

The snow at Hakkoda was incredible as well as the scenery.

The traditional style of the accommodation was nice and the staff were most helpful even though they did not speak much English.

The only downside was that some of us got some food poisoning from one of the dinners while staying there. However in saying that we would probably still come here again but avoid some of the raw seafood dishes.

The communication that you provided with the Sukayu Onsen was excellent and very helpful while in Japan especially when organising small things like baggage delivery.

Thanks for your help
