Nozawa House 3 bedroom guest reviews

Nozawa House 3 bedroom

"We had two families (4 adults 5 children) stay at Nozawa House in the first week of April 2012.

The location is great with everything being walking distance, and I think it would be even better earlier in the ski season when you can ski back directly to the house. Because we were there pretty much in spring, the road had just been cleared and also the Hikage Gondola was no longer running. Still, Gabriel our host was very helpful in providing all of us a lift every morning to the main gondola that was still running so there was plenty of fresh snow and good skiing.

There was a starter food pack when we first arrived which was handy indeed but Gabriel also took us to the supermarket to get more supplies and provided good advice on restaurants and the local onsens.

As for the house itself, it suited our families very well. The kids loved being together in the bunk room. We preferred the very roomy Japanese style room and our friends slept in the bedroom on the top floor. The lounge is cozy, the dining area has stunning views and the selection of movies available is endless. The place is highly recommended."

Early January 2017

Appi Grand was excellent. Our rooms in the Tower, although not brand new in their furnishings, were spacious, well appointed, and with great views. The service was extremely good. The  food in all the restaurants was delicious. The location of the hotel is ideal for easy and true ski in ski out skiing. The facilities of the hotel were extensive, and very good for entertainment of children and toddlers. Thank you again for all your help with the booking.

Shikinoyado Kawahiro Guest Reviews

Late Feb 2017

My son previously had a ski accident and after two hours of travel to Nozawa he really needed to rest. Sam at Shikinoyado was very helpful and able to accommodate us straight away, which I appreciated very much. The location is excellent for skiers so that you don’t need to walk around the hilly town in ski boots.

Late January 2017

Our time in Nazawo onsen was fantastic. Kawahiro was great and the total Japanese immersion that we wanted. A bonus was that it is located by the gondola.

Thanks,
Marita

Early January 2015

We LOVED Nozawa. Love the ski in ski out accommodation. The only downside of Kawahiro is the smoking in the foyer which can travel up to the rooms. Next time we will request 100% non smoking.

We prefered the wider runs as 3 of us board and the others ski. This was only the second time the kids have skied and they did 10 days straight which was impressive. I would like to book 3 of them in for a lesson on our first day this next time. We really enjoyed the cultural experience when we travel.

Loved Tokyo too as you can see we took kids to zoo and we also went to the sumo tournament which we all throughly enjoyed.

We flew direct with jetstar last time and stayed overnight at the Airport hotel and then traveled the following day which was great.

Next year we were thinking 5 days skiing in one place and 5 days skiing in another then back toward Tokyo for 2-3 days before heading home. Would love to see the Geisha museum,  Hiroshima and anything else you recommend. Thanks in advance for next year..

Early January 2015

Kawahiro could not be closer to the Nagasaka Gondola (a few metres?).Definitely ski in and ski out and it made it very easy for our family to come in from the slopes whenever and head out skiing multiple times throughout the day if needed.

It is further from the main street for restaurant dinners though and the walk back up is steep-ish and can feel long if it is snowing heavily and you are trudging up with a full belly. We have tried the onsite restaurant set dinner (hot pot) and it was yummy but probably better for adults who can appreciate the large and complicated array of dishes, rather than kids (we asked for the more basic katsu don for the boys). Japanese breakfast is included (we also had cornflakes and milk with ours - possibly only included for foreigners?), which was a great novelty at the start but there were days when we probably just felt like toast! :)

The place is very traditional Japanese with tatami mats that can take some getting used to if you prefer softer beds. There is a clean and spacious onsen on site and while we also explored the village onsens, the onsite onsen (open from 4-10pm) made it very convenient if we didn't feel like heading out till dinner.

If you are looking for a ski lodge then this is not the place for you as other than the onsen and a smoking area on the ground floor, there is really no common areas to hang out in other than your actual room. Our room was a relatively spacious one for our family of 5 on the 3rd floor (the stairs will keep you fit!). Bathrooms are shared and the staff will give you a daily supply of hot water thermos for making tea etc.

This last one is looking out from our window!

Your service - top notch and smooth as usual. We will contact you next time we are in Japan again. :)

Nozawa the resort - even better than last time as there was more snow and lifts open (we were spring skiing in late March on our first visit). Hope this helps. :)

Cheers Mel

"Was honestly one of the best holidays I have ever had!

A perfect mix of a new exciting cultural experience, and some of the best powder I have ever ridden!!!!!

Accommodation was great, Authentic Japanese accomodation, within meters of main Nozawa gondola. Nice clean accomodation. Authentic rooms (small, with futon beds).

Breakfast authenic Japanese (takes some getting used to, but proivdes plenty of energy for big day on the slopes!).

Extremely close to nagasaka gondola, and 10min walk down hill to town.

Shared onsen bathroom (no private showers, again takes bit of getting used to, but the heat and healing of onsen water is well worth it!).

Good accomodation for the price. ). Already saving the pennies for a trip back there next year"

Nakajimaya Ryokan guest review

Late Feb 2017

We had a fantastic time.  The hosts at Nakajimaya were really nice, and the breakfast was a great combination of authentic Japanese food with excellent flavor.  We also really like Nozawa: the hot springs are a necessary cultural experience for anyone wanting to understand these rural mountain towns, and the resort has the best off piste skiing that we're done in Japan.

Overall, great.  We'll totally come back in a couple years!

Late Feb 2017

Our trip was great, we enjoyed the resort, easy access, hiring the equipment was effortless, the runs were fabulous. The ryokan was good, very welcoming and so helpful. Apart from the breakfast, everything was enjoyable. I suppose we had such wonderful Japanese breakfast everywhere else, we were expecting better than what was served.

Thank you for your service, it was perfect.

Mid Jan 2016

Your service is excellent. Whithout you, I would have been unable to find an accomodation in this peak period.

The accomodation was great and the owner of the Ryokan very friendly.

We loved the village too, and the dosijin worth to be seen, really impressive and interesting (and you can have some sake shots on the slopes !).

The ski lift were not too crowded, althought it was the aussie's holiday. This is a really good point.

I was disapointed by the snow coverage, a lot of bottom slopes were closed...I'm use to in europ, bad luck in Japan. I'm an expert backcountry skier, Nozawa lacks of steep run, and the space between trees is not sufficient in the forest to ski in (except on the side of Hikage gondola, acess by first station of the other gondola). Some nice runs too from the skyline on both sides. But many trees...

Thanks again Hisae, I will certainly take your advice for my next season in Japan !

Mid Jan 2016

Thank you so much for arranging such beautiful, picturesque, cultural and comfortable accommodation at such a good price (at the last minute) in such a fabulous location! The entire town is perfection; beautiful and ancient and culturally rich and an absolute joy to visit.

The walk to and from our accommodation each day was always a highlight, we absolutely loved the fire festival, and even though the snow was average it was nonetheless one of the best holidays I've ever been on.

The accommodation itself was fantastic, the food was absolutely outstanding, but by far the highlight were the staff. Please send a very special thank you to our hostess (I'm so sorry I've forgotten her name!). Nothing was too much trouble, and all the staff went above and beyond to help us silly Aussies to understand and fully appreciate their town.

We have been raving about the trip for months now, recommend the village, the accommodation and of course your services to anyone who will listen, and are already plotting to go back.

Thank you Hisae for making our trip wonderful!

Kind regards,

Melanie

Early Jan 2016

We had a wonderful trip. Nakajimaya Ryokan was exactly what we wanted. It is a beautifully run, traditional ryokan serving wonderful food. It is clean, comfortable and convenient for skiers moving to and from the peaks of Nozawa Onsen. We hope we can return some time soon.

Best wishes,

Late Dec 2015

We loved staying at Nakajimaya Ryokan and experiencing a traditional Japanese Inn. Yukiko, her family and staff were all exceptionally kind and helpful, always giving us good advice and explaining Japanese customs when necessary. Our rooms were both quiet and spacious with plenty of room for the family to relax at the end of the day. It was a real draw card having a private onsen within the ryokan and we made good use of this everyday.

Nozawa is a gorgeous village with many restaurants and bars, we were able to find a different place to eat every night and also enjoyed a superb meal at the Nakajimaya Ryokan as well. We will definitely be going back there.

Late January 2015

We loved our holiday in Japan.

Thanks you for booking us into Nakajimaya Ryokan.

We had an amazing family experience and loved the Ryokan.

The family were fantastic hosts and very helpful.

We would love to stay there again.

Certainly the walk to and from the ski hill through the village streets was enjoyable every day and we liked being a bit out of the busy areas.

I have attached a few photos from our stay to show you!

So thanks so much for looking after us!

Early January 2015

Just wanted to let you know that our Nozawa Onsen trip was a big success and we all had an excellent stay at the Nakajimaya Ryokan.

The hosts at the Ryokan were always friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome.

Please pass on our thanks to them.

Getting to the snow via Shinkansen, local train and bus was stress free and like everything else in Japan, was on time and schedule.

And the skiing was superb.

Hopefully we’ll do it again next year.

Thanks

Attached are the happy customers.

Mid January 2014

We had a wonderful time at Nozawa Onsen thankyou

Your service was wonderful , esp finding something so perfect for us at relatively late notice., at a busy time of year.

We really loved Nakajimaya Ryokan

Loved the traditional nature of it and being exposed to other Japanese travellers and staff as well , rather than the 1st lodge we stayed at for the first 3 days which was great but not especially Japanese.

The lady in charge was absolutely beautiful to us and so kind and helpful- she was gorgeous.

The food was amazing and we loved the exposure to the traditional dishes and table arrangements .

It was nice also to experience the in house onsen without having to go out in the cold to get there.

The masseuse across the road was very good after a day of skiing and really enjoyed being able to walk easily to everything in the village esp for the fire festival.

Even able to come back to the rooms for a while to watch where the festival was up to , then go out again later on . Rooms very cosy and comfortable.

Was not too far a walk to the travellator either to get to the ski fields.

The woman in charge of the hotel was very good with making bookings etc for us-very reliable and great service.

Absolutely loved the village and the skiing.People friendly .

Snow wonderful. Very pretty and long green runs , so enjoyable with children – they loved it .

Beautiful and interesting village and so glad we saw the fire festival . Nice to have more a traditional glimpse of everything.

Only thing to mention to people is book your restaurant meals ahead as it is a small village and venues get booked out ahead .

Thanks for your help

Would love to go back

Late January 2014

My wife and I stayed at Nakajimaya Ryokan, Nozawa Onsen in February 2014.

The rooms are large and comfortable, staff are helpful, smiling and courteous always, and the food is amazing.

Many other great restaurants are nearby, as well as numerous free public onsens, 1 of which is right outside the front door.

When we return to Nozawa, we will be staying at Nakajimaya Ryokan."

This is an excellent traditional ryokan.

The family that run it are very friendly and helpful, the rooms are comfortable and well decorated and the food is of a very high quality. I recommend having breakfast here and the dinner is also excellent. we spent a week here before heading off to hokkaido and it was one of the highlights of our trip."

Our group of 8 women had a wonderful week.

Mid Feb 2017

What a great trip. Fantastic snow. All 3 places we stayed at are amazing. Your organizational skills are to be applauded. Maruken Sanso with Mamoru was a great location with service second to none. Bus transfers to each location was very simple. Chuo Taxis are the way to go – amazing service – on time – every time.

Cannot wait to book again for next year. Keep up the great work.

Mid January 2017

Yes we had a wonderful stay at Maruken Sanso. The staff were friendly and as helpful and hospitable as can be. The breakfasts were delicious and the company in the lodge was excellent. The onsen was a great place to go at the end of a day's skiing, and the village had a lovely atmosphere, with so many interesting places to eat.

Your service was faultless and friendly.

Thanks so much.

Mid January 2017

We had an amazing snow trip!  Thanks for organizing the accommodation.

Marukan San was in a fabulous location, close to the gondala and the main street of Nowzawa Onsen.  The accommodation was clean and comfortable.  The host was extremely courteous and helpful, going out of his way to get ski tickets organized for us every morning.  I loved the Japanese breakfast which were plentiful and filling. One of the best part of the accommodation was the in-house hot bath – fantastic after a day on the slope!  We had public onsens all around us, all ‘free’ to use.

It would be great if there were instructions in the onsens in English so that we could respectfully comply with local traditions.

We will definitely be going back to Nowzawa Onsen and hope to stay at the same accommodation!

Warm Regards,
Perri Lim

Late january 2015

Our trip was so good!

It was very easy to check in even though we were arriving in the middle of the night, the host was lovely
and told us everything we ended to know about the accommodation. Rooms very neat and tidy and one
of our rooms had a great view of the town.
The breakfasts we had included were a great mix of Japanese and western style foods + coffee which
was great. We also had dinner in house one night, cooked by the hosts which was delicious traditional
food.

For most of our group this was our second visit to Nozawa Onsen and the snow was much better than
this time so we were all very pleased.

Such a cute little ski village and the accommodation is very close to the lifts (5 min walk). We also made use
of the in-house onsen and had it to ourselves most of the time which was great
Loved staying here and were
grateful for everything the hosts did to help out!

Early January 2016

Thank-you for giving me the opportunity to review on our recent holiday to Japan.

We really did book at the last minute, and we're very happy to find such great accomodation. 'Maruken Sanso' proved to be the perfect cultural introduction & our hosts could not do enough to make us feel welcome.

The meals were fantastic & the in-house onsen was most welcome after a day on the slopes !

The actual resort & village was very quant. We found the skiing & lift coverage most suitable to our level of expertise. Also, all of the mountain staff were really friendly, most speaking some English. Maruken Sanso was only a 5 minute walk to the gondola.

I also would like to thank-you personally, @ 'japansnowaccomodation.com', for assisting us in booking our holiday. Hisae, you returned both my emails & phone calls. Great customer service

I have already passed on your contact details to work colleagues & have no hesitation in recommending both your service & Maruken Sanso . All up, a great holiday.

THANK-YOU !
Kate

Late December 2015

We have been travelling mainly on and sometimes off to Japan since 2003. We travelled to Honshu, Nagano area, since we had a brilliant trip the year before skiing Nozawa Onsen and Madarao.

We have used Hisae and the team at Japan snow accommodations, which takes a lot of the hard work out of planning the trip. Also we have asked for alternatives and there was a quick answer and good information at all times.

The snow conditions weren’t as good as usual but, but this was put down to the El Nino effect in the Pacific area. We stayed at the Maruken Sanso in Nozawa Onsen; we had been there the year before. The family were just as accommodating as the year before and made everyone in the small lodge welcome.

This is a very short walk to the main gondola and is good for an early start on a powder morning, not too much walking. They have an onsen bath for the guests and that takes care of the sore muscles. One of the ancient 14 onsen is just down the road, for the old world onsen charm. They have ski storage, hot room for the boots and a workshop for running r repairs. Another cleaver trick is the houses, hotels and accommodations pump the onsen water on the road, the road is never to Icey to walk on.

Sukayu Onsen Ryokan guest reviews

Early Feb 2017

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for organising our Japan accommodation.

Your recommendations were fantastic and we loved every place we stayed, particularly enjoying the ryokan experiences at Hakkoda and Geto Kogen. I also want to say thanks for answering any questions we had via email.

Late December 2016

Sukayu Onsen was great and nice with friendly staff, of course not speaking Japanese (for us) or no English for the staff,  is really a limitation but we found in the hotel Japanese guest , english speakers who helped us when needed.

The weather was at that time quite ok, lots of snow fall ;-) ….The team for backcountry skiing from the hotel were super helpful AND extremely professional -All of them! Really adorable! They deserve to have foreign people coming …when I am seeing so many limitation on internet just around the langage barrier…I can tell you they speak enough English to bring you on tour! Our private guide named Satoshi was english speaker and we have had a super nice day of discovering and skiing with our son of 9 years old. Satoshi has been very patient, very kind and he really has customised our day in order to make it safe, agreeable and super fun.

Scenery in HAKKODA are just amazing!! Of course if the weather turns bad, there not a lot to do, however staying at Sukayou is a real plus….you can enjoy the onsen after a full day of ski or even without going to ski.Not sure staying there a full week could please anyone, specially in case of bad weather, the public snow resort is super minimal (just 2 slopes) and if you are in Hakkoda for the first time not recommended at all to go alone on back country-really to risky-Nevertheless, back to Paris now,  we are super Nostalgic, and I am sure we will come back to Hakkoda.

Our stay was a magic stay!!! really!!Thanks for everything and your great support!

Sincerely,
LEILA

Feb 2017

Hakkoda trip and accommodation, snow etc was fantastic last February. Hakkoda is a little gem and what a beautiful park. The accommodation was really good. Like an old fashioned ‘hunting lodge’ with a very traditional feelin

Cheers,

Late Feb 2016

Sukayu Onsen Ryokan is the perfect place to stay if you are looking for traditional accommodation at a reasonable price.

The highlight of the hotel is the large onsen on the ground floor which is a great place to warm up and soothe aching muscles after a day on the slopes. The onsen is mixed but it’s very steamy so don’t let that put you off!

Rooms are tatami rooms with futon beds and are very clean and comfortable.

Meals are a highlight of the stay, with an excellent buffet breakfast and a ‘semi-buffet’ dinner, ie. several small dishes are served at the table, then you can help yourself to the main dish, rice, miso soup, salad and dessert. The breakfast comprises mainly Japanese dishes, but you can also have cereal, fruit and yogurt and toast if you wish. Excellent coffee is also available.

The hotel runs a free shuttle bus each morning to the Ropeway (cable car), returning in the afternoon. There is also one free bus a day to Aomori station. If you miss this, there are three scheduled buses per day, or you can take a taxi.

The skiing can be summed up in one word - powder! Although there are groomed pistes, the reason to come to Hakkoda is to find fresh tracks down the mountain, particularly through the trees. You could happily days here just skiing runs accessed by the lift, though for the more adventurous, hiking snow-shoes or skins will open up more opportunities.

Hakkoda is easy to get to from Tokyo and well worth a try if you’re looking for something different.

Late January 2015

The trip was very good, thank you! I appreciate all the organization and time you spent answering emails prior to the trip. The staff at the onsen spoke sufficient English to get by. It would be better if you had told me there is an option for room only, not including meals, as it is a bit expensive, and the food is only so-so. The mountain was amazing. We snowboarded in both whiteout blizzard and blue skies conditions. The snow was fantastic, and the guides are very organized. The other Japanese guests are very friendly as well. They knew it was my first time in back country and helped me a lot. One of the best trips I've had, thanks a lot!

Simon

Early Febuary 2015

This was my third ski trip to Japan. I have now had 3 months in total over 3 seasons. I have skied many resorts all over Hokkaido. This most recent trip was my first time skiing Honshu and took us to Nozwa onsen, Madaro and Myoko before our stay at Hakkoda. Over the past 30 years I have skied USA, Canada , France, Austria and of course NZ. I have had thousands of days on skis but never anything quite like our 3 days in Hakkoda. It will always stand out as a special time for my family and I.

As we came prepared for backcountry skiing we loved the Hakkoda experience and fortunately we had the visibility to explore the endless terrain safely.

The snow monster trees were spectacular.

I certainly would not recommend to anyone but the most experienced or super adventurous.

Without good weather you would require a guide for certain.

The Sukayu Onsen was my favorite of the many onsen visited over the years. We enjoyed the authentic traditional feel and Japanese food.

The free shuttle to the lift was much appreciated.

Overall it was a brilliant few days and we feel lucky to have discovered the Sukayu Onsen before the inevitable crowds of foreigners.

Late January 2015

It's my last night here at Sakuya Onsen. It has been a wonderful experience staying here, perhaps one of my best ever in Japan, and the sking was great too.

I just want to thank you for all your help, the accommodation you found me was top shelf. If you need some more detailed feedback, or any kind of endorsement please just ask.

I am sure this trip will not be my last so I look forward to planning the next one!

Sincere thanks - Ian

A few photos of my time here...

The front desk Staff were great, especially Yasuda Mika, so friendly and helpful.

Mid January 2015

The trip went well, it was great. Great skiing and a very nice cultural experience. I am glad we went to the Sukayu Onsen, because of the traditional japanese type of accomodation it provided. The mountain was good, lots of snow :) We skied 2 days around the lift, when it was dumping, and the rest of the time we did tours of most of the peaks there. It was a really great trip, thank you very much for the help on the booking.

Mid Feb 2014.

We had a fantastic time, and really achieved harmony at the Sukayo Onsen

We would ski all day and then relax in the hot springs and eat great dinners together.

The snow just kept coming, and we had 5-15 inches of fresh snow every morning.

We slept really well on the Tatami mats, and enjoyed great Japanese food.

This felt like a very genuine Japan experience.

I would recommend Sukayo Onsen and Amori skiing to all passionate skiers or people who are just looking for a reset.

Please check out my snaps below

Bjorn

"Sukayu Onsen was actually the highlight of our whole Japan trip!

Fantastic traditional japanese place with great service, tasty food and a wonderful onsen.

Next time we will come 6 instead of 2 nights!"

Early February 2014

"We had an excellent time at Hakkoda while staying at Sukayu Onsen.

The sheer uniqueness of Hakkoda makes it a must visit while in Japan. It was nice to get away from some of the more tourist hot spots and visit somewhere which had a more traditional feel.

The snow at Hakkoda was incredible as well as the scenery.

The traditional style of the accommodation was nice and the staff were most helpful even though they did not speak much English.

The only downside was that some of us got some food poisoning from one of the dinners while staying there. However in saying that we would probably still come here again but avoid some of the raw seafood dishes.

The communication that you provided with the Sukayu Onsen was excellent and very helpful while in Japan especially when organising small things like baggage delivery.

Thanks for your help
