Just got back from skiing Furano staying 7 nights at Tsuru Apartments and had a wonderful time - highly recommend this place. My husband and I stayed in a 1 bedroom apartment (ground floor) with our 19yo son sleeping on a foldaway bed in the lounge room. There was plenty of room for all 3 of us (including our luggage) with a good little kitchen, wifi and great bathroom with plenty of hot water for showers and a combined washer/dryer. The apartment was very clean and tidy and the garbage bins were emptied every day.
Our host HIRO was the best. He picked us up from the bus stop and took us down to the supermarket that afternoon. He also organised discount lift tickets for us and even dropped us downtown for dinner one night. He is a wonderful host.
The apartment was an easy 10 minute walk up to the Gondola in ski boots and carrying our skis but there are lockable ski racks inside near the ticket office where you can leave your skis overnight for only 100 yen making the walk up about 7 minutes. We were also able to ski home a couple of times using the side road which the apartments are on.
Tsuru Apartments was a great find in Furano and can't wait to come back again.

We had a wonderful trip thank you. Taurus apartments were perfect for our holiday. Hiro is a lovely man & he keeps the property spotless.
The apartment was really comfortable & clean. It was a bit hard to get used to separating our rubbish, but we had it sorted in the end. The apartments can be noisy. We had a downstairs apartment, with another above us. Unfortunately we had a very noisy guest staying above us for several nights who very disruptive. But that would be my only complaint.
I can highly recommend Taurus apartments & hope to get back one day soon.

We recently stayed a week in Tsuru Apartment this February 2010 and we liked it a lot.
The location was perfect: a few meters from the Kitanomine ski lift. The one bedroom apartment was cosy, warm, clean, quiet.
Mr Hiro is a great person. He was very helpful. We had diner twice in his small restaurant and enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the food (the salmon with miso sauce was our favorite).
One tip for coffee-addicted people: bring your own coffee machine or filter, as this was not provided in the kitchen. Enjoy your stay at Tsuru and Furano, which is a quiet place to relax, far away from the crowd.

Furano is located in Hoakkaido and is 1209 m high.
It is famous for light dry powder but with less crowds than Niseko. The ski resort has a variety of terrain suitable for all levels of skiers from beginner to advanced. There are two magic carpet escalators accessed slopes for children. To challenge yourself, there are ungroomed powder runs and steep cruisers that have been used for FIS world cup races in the past.
There are many backcountry tours and guides avaialble in Furano. Some people base themselvise in Furano to explore the Central Hokkaido such as Tomamu, Asahidake, Tokachidake and Sahoro.
There are two zones to stay, Furano & Kitanomine. Kitanomine has a little village with restaurants & shops and most of the accommdoation is located in this area. The other area is the Furano Zone & The Furano Prince Hotel is the only accommodation in this area.
The closest international airport is the New Chitose Airport, but depending on your country of origin you may have to fly into Tokyo first. The easiest mode of transport is the Hokkaido Resort Liner which leaves from New Chitose Airport daily and takes about 3 hours to reach Furano.
